I recently watched a modern film about Jesse Owens and they went out of their way to make Joseph look like some modern braindead literally evil skinhead - he had buzzed hair (???) for some reason, it was just such stupid propaganda.
I think it wrote it off as "he was supposed to meet Hitler, but Hitler raged off from the arena and skinhead Goebbels was like "of course he can't meet someone of THAT inferior dirty filthy kneegrow race!! grrr!!" or something like that". Fairly sure it said something about him not receiving respects from the american president , though, which is something....
FDR didn't say anything to Owens. Owens himself wrote that he had never been treated with as much respect and admiration in the US as he was in Germany. It's 100% propaganda that he was treated poorly. Our own president never even congratulated him.
