get a job working for someone else to gain experience, work for practically any wage as long as the experience seems good and diverse

once you think you know pretty much everything there is to know, go to start your own small business. This is what I did, I would just coldcall or walk onto job sites and ask if they needed independent tradesmen (or crews of tradesmen, I had a couple guys who would work for me) and had jobs coming in pretty much right away. I made sure to always do top quality work, didn't cut corners, didn't fuck around on job sites, just all business, rarely ever had any serious complaints. This lead to improving my reputation, which lead to more job sites.

Now I have ~18 employees, I rarely have to leave my house, the cut I make off all my guys is enough to give me a very comfortable life
