Because there's no real choice. It's no coincidence that the Greek language (who coined the Term "democracy") don't have different words for democracy and republic. The Republican Party and the Democrat party are the same thing linguistically from the language and culture that gave us those ideas and words in the first place.
Ultimately choosing between one economically liberal party who is owned by Jews and another economically liberal party that is owned by Jews; is ultimately no choice at all. I wouldn't even waste my time. Big turn out are for population that don't vote often. If you don't vote 3 times a year, you're not being asked your opinion on the direction of your country.

If you look at France, they can only vote for to decide who is going to fuck them up during the next 5 for president and lower chamber, and city council/mayor, 7 for higher chamber. They can't vote for their legislative branch, which is subdued to their executive branche.
In the US like in CH, they can cast a vote against a law. Or propose a text to be turned into a law at some level (local, state in the US if I recall) (local and constitutional in CH)
France never votes on laws and have high tun out for polls, but, they go on strike to express their disasisfaction. Wich one is the best high turn out and chimp out. Or low turn out and general approbation of the policies of the different branch of the state.

These are my opinion on why I didn't vote in the last election, I only voted for the primaries.
1. Both candidates were a loss to me, both talked far-out shit, but deep down, they can only really do what congress allows.
2. It's on a weekday and I have shit to do (job and university)
3. The 1 presidential candidate I thought would actually be good (Ben Carson) only got like 5% of republican votes in the primary, so fuck you guys for not listening to him and realizing he was the only decent candidate from any fucking party
4. Only truly radical changes to law will actually affect my standard of living that much, so why should I care about anything else?

Parties are defined by urban and rural areas. Republicans control the rural areas with an iron fist and most of the suburban areas. Democrats have an iron grip on the urban areas and shovel dirt out into the immediate suburbs to flip them to their control. Most people find it pointless to even show up to vote because it's lopsided 80-20% in their region or any other region.

Elections happen here on Tuesdays and at an inconvenient time of the day. Secondly, there aren't even close to enough polling stations to accommodate everyone, so queues can be up to five hours long in some cases. It doesn't even matter. Both parties here are very similar, and neither actually want to reform government corruption.

My "graduation" (bachelor?) Was more about Public Policy, the European Union and a bit of "Contemporaneous European (Western? it included America and Brazil) History" with a little Security thrown in.

My Master was more about Foreign Policy. I have tried to reach for joining the Dimplomatic Corps so I'm more into "creating / adapting to" foreign policy and policy in genera.
However my law and economics bases are not as strong as they should.
Linguistically, I've studied French, German, Spanish and Russian but I've forgotten most of it except Spanish and English of course, although I speak and write it with less quality than when I was 20...

The bottom line is, I find it all very boring now.

I fantasise about how to get us out of this madness though. And that has led me into interesting considerations regarding my country.

We "academics" / "studied people" should not disregard commoners or plebeians for when we focus too much into a topic we kind of lose the common sense insight of who is looking from the outside in with no prejudices.
