Did you not do European history 1900-1945 at school or college? You could go even earlier to just before the formation of Germany at the time of Bismarck.
You could do with a grounding of blue pill history before even looking at the red pill.

Read "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" by William Shirer. It's been the definitive history for over 50 years of the happenings in Germany leading up to and during the war, as written by a news correspondent who was there. I'm generally a speed reader, a standard novel in 2 to 5 hours; it took me over a week to digest this book.
