You say you're a leftist but what is the foundational belief/feeling that drives your political ideology? There are a million different aspects of capitalism that can be critiqued, and for different reasons. The right criticizes capitalism's tendency to destroy tradition and strength and promote marketplace values, for instance.

All of the left-wing energies (egalitarianism, income equality, pacifism, avoidance of conflict, technological/social progress) contradict private gun ownership and everything associated with it. You can make a tactical argument for guns or claim that gun ownership makes a society more peaceful/equal in practice, but it's still a contradiction and one that will be continually attacked.
