There was also tension between Pope Francis and Patron of the Knights of Malta, the traditionalist Cardinal Raymond Leo Burke, after a series of controversies that included strong criticism against Bergoglio’s liberal reforms of the Church that were made public in a letter sent to Bergoglio. This letter written by Burke and other Cardinals, asked Pope Francis for an audience to discuss deep concerns over the his apostolic exhortation on the family, Amoris Laetitia (The Joy of Love). Burke is a supporter of Donald J. Trump, and was officially suspended from the Patronage, on February 21, 2017.
Earlier today, however, our worst fears became real, when the last traditionalist Order that poses a threat to Francis, the Knights of Malta, still immensely powerful within the military and intelligence community worlwide (including the conservative side of the C.I.A), have seemingly lost their battle for the defense of tradition and Christianity.
