Monarchies provide nice cultural stability. Other than that though, centralized power, especially at the hands at a rich upperclassman, is not good. Constitutional monarchy with a parliament sounds fine to me, especially if the king/queen still has power.

No system is „maintenaceable“. Every political system ever will be unrecognizable just 200 years later (only three human life spans) at most. USA, UK, Switzerland, Sweden etc. are nominally the same country as in 1800 a.D., but we all know hey aren‘t really.
Stability can be an argument for or against a specific republic or monarchy, but not in general. They are both unstable, because everything made by humans is. The question whether one prefers a monarchy or a republic usually boils down to: are you right (tradition, hierarchy) or left (change, equality). Naturally monarchy has tradition in some places but not in others. A Duke of Iowa or King of the US sounds and is absurd. So is a German president. As a German I am therefore a monarchist, but if I was an American I wouldn‘t be.
