Nips gonna nop

They made the fatal mistake of underestimating their enemy. They should have left us alone and made peace, we may have even come to their aid if they played their cards right. Too bad they couldn't see the nigger picture and had to attack us. Oh well, we're friends now and that's all that matters.

>tfw bigger auto-corrected to nigger
Sometimes phoneposting has its benefits.

Because the Hull Utimatum, under the Hage Conventions of War, meant that we could start hostilities at any time.
It was FDR's end run around the congress to get the US into WW 2. The congress would NOT declare war.
Mind you, FDR openly started shooting at the Germans without a declaration of war before this... the Germans didn't take the bait.
Americans are ignorant of their own history. No wonder it repeats all the damned time since 1914.

Oil, also US would have joined the war against germany and italy what would have triggerd a way aside from this

quite a few things didn't go according to plan. if Barbarossa had wrapped up in 1942 like it was supposed to, the Germans could have turned their attention west and would have tangled up a lot more British / American resources.

furthermore the carrier fleet conveniently wasn't present in the harbor on Dec 7th. if they had fucked up the carriers as badly as they fucked up Arizona et al, then America's entry into the Pacific War would have indeed been delayed for like 2 years. Midway would not have happened and Japan might have maintained the naval superiority necessary to wrap up its other Pacific campaigns and build up its manufacturing capability and maintain its colonial supply lines and not get BTFO by American manufacturing when it came to that. but that's just conjecture, who's to say what would have happened.

>Why did Japs do this?

Americans put an oil embargo on Japan, effectively limiting Japan's war capabilities. Japan had reacted out of aggression. Quite possibly the biggest mistake the Japs ever made in their history as a country.

Desperation. The US cut off trade to Japan at a time that Japan desperately needed it, and also due to our clear opposition to Germany in Europe we were a potential threat regardless. Japan had two options:

1. Withdraw from China/Indochina/Singapore
2. Attack the United States

They couldn't continue their campaign in East Asia with the US blocking off their trade and posing a serious threat, since again, we were already clearly opposed to their allies (despite not being formally in the war).

>if Barbarossa had wrapped up in 1942 like it was supposed to
Barbarossa was based on the assumption of Germany getting insanely lucky the way they had against the French. It was not a realistic operation by any stretch of the imagination.

>furthermore the carrier fleet conveniently wasn't present in the harbor on Dec 7th
Because the US had already cracked Japan's codes. Despite (correctly) anticipating an attack on the Philippines, the carriers were moved away just to be on the safe side.

>Japan might have maintained the naval superiority necessary to wrap up its other Pacific campaigns
Not a chance. The US churned out more ships in a year than Japan did in the entire war. Even if Japan had taken out the American carrier fleet on Dec. 7 1941, they still would have ultimately lost. They were just at too much of a disadvantage in terms of population and industrial capacity.

Yes they did, but they didn't have any oil anyway. Once the war got going the Japanese could hardly replace any ship they lost but the Americans could pump out 3 for every ship they lost.

We wouldn't have helped them and we would have figured out a way to go to war regardless.

Like the Nazi's, they overestimated their military prowess. They thought that in one fell swoop, they could cripple the US Pacific fleet at Pearl Harbor allowing the Japs to consolidate their holdings in the South Pacific and dissuade the US from preventing their expansionary efforts in East Asia. They dun' goofed, and could not achieve their aim so they were pitched in a fight to push back the invading US navy. In general, Japan was interested in driving out Western presence in the region, not "take over the world."

you're a sap mr jap

I suspect that they intended to lose the war. The US went from embargoes and sanctions to poring millions(billions?) of dollars into their economy. Of all the countries that fought in WW2 only Japan has retained it's nationalism. They think in terms of decades and centuries, not what to do in the next few minutes.

archaic military command. multiple people high up in the japanese military thought attacking america was a terrible idea, but generals can do whatever they want with their troops without seeking permission overhead in the japanese military, and often started conquests to further their reputation. the attack on pearl harbor falls under this umbrella.

contesting that. whether or not they could wrap it up depends on how quickly they managed to wrap it up. with successful Barbarossa (delusional, I know, but the axis was working under this assumption) and no American fleet until 1944 this becomes more plausible. closer to a fair fight, at least. it didn't help that Japanese high command was also delusional about its military capabilities

Yeah, kids are clueless.
>what is a oil embargo
yeah im sure starving japan of energy had nothing to do with their suicide bombings(if it wasnt even a false flag)

oil embargo

US had committed multiple acts of war against Japan and wanted Pearl Harbour to be attacked to rid themselves of derelict warships. They knew it was coming, even the local papers knew it was coming. Rosenfeldt wanted it as a backdoor to a confrontation with Germany who was mucking up the banker's grand plan. Eight Action Memo.

They were attempting to sink the carriers of the Pacific Fleet.
Miraculously, all the carriers had gone to sea just before the attack.

Daily reminder we had the codes cracked for every cunt everywhere but kept them under our hats because Churchill was bought & paid for by repeating parentheses.

Japan didn't have a choice. They were down to 10 days of oil or the like & the US was bought & paid for too. It was inevitable they were going to sweep in once the axis were too weak to fight back so Japan did arguably the tactically best thing.
America continues to prey on the weak & defenceless to this day, to great applause & self-congratulation.

Not trying to trigger burgers, that is how it is. Modern America since ww2 is focussed on destroying its internal strength through immigrants/commies while employing the residual manpower to kill peasant farmers abroad.

The EU army & US army will be indistinguishable in 20 years. Desperate, estranged people killing other desperate, surplus people for fun & profit.

Apparently no one realized America was like 1/3 of the industrial capacity of the world? We could out china anyone and if we weren't so goddamned nice/communist at the time we could have Jewed the entire war making ridiculous bank of the perpetual conflict.

>(((Miraculously)))

Something about getting shafted during WWI.

>sat out war for years
>war profit while being "neutral"
>not jewing the world

fuck off retard. you are a bunch of fucking cowards. always were and always will be.

The emporer was against it but the top generals wanted to do it anyway to destroy every ship so they would win some more years

What coffin? Japan is doing great.

(((Coincidences)))

Eh, my family were Canadian at the time bucko. My great Grandfather was the first wave on d-day.

What the fuck happened to you goddamn leafs, you used to be fucking killers.

my grand grandpa mowed the good leafs down

It was the correct move.

America Just lucked out because they had spent the previous decade building huge public works projects most of which were about supplying prodigious amounts of energy.

This energy would be harnessed to create the greatest war machine the world had ever seen, with basically zero build up time.

The biggest irony is the conservatives bitching "that it cost too much and would never be paid back!"

Frugal morons.

fucking idiots
