This is the safest thing to do if the kid lives in a house with guns. You should be keeping them somewhere where he can't fuck with them naturally, but the little monkey has all day every day to plot how to get into your gun case, at least now when he somehow gets his mitts on one he knows how to clear it and handle it somewhat safely.
It's just like having a pool and a kid. You don't just tell him never to go in without you, you also teach him to swim. Children tend to have a very fuzzy understanding of abstract concepts like death and won't quite grasp that he could drown and die if he's alone when he goes in the pool, so the little fuck is going to do it and he's going to autistically obsess over it because you said not to. But because he knows how to swim he's not going to die before you can catch him and whoop his ass.
