Not mandatory. They're one semester pass/fail classes. We also have classes like this on the Civil War, WWI, Napoleon, and Indian history. I took two of these classes on Arab history and history in the 50's-80's. Not all high schools offer the holocaust class, though, my friend from Pennsylvania didn't do it.
