VIDEO: China's 1st home-built aircraft carrier heads out for sea trials. China's first domestic-built aircraft carrier has been sent on its first voyage for sea trials, according to Chinese media. It's the latest development in Beijing's mission to modernize its military. The 77,000-ton Type 001A carrier left a shipyard in the northeastern port of Dalian at 6:45am local time on Sunday, Xinhua reported. It sailed out to sea half an hour later.
The sea trials will test the reliability and stability of the vessel's power system and other equipment, according to sources cited by Xinhua. Once it is in service, it will be able to accommodate China's Shenyang J-15 fighter jets.
It routinely has to be towed by a tug boat because the damn thing chokes on its own smog.

>a ramp Nothing wrong with it. You can reduce runway length, thus reducing weight of carrier and materials needed.
Jace Diaz
does it got a ramp?
Jordan Hall
It's a deep modernization of the Kuznetsov design. While it definitely fixed the glaring flaws of the original late 70's USSR design, it's still nowhere near a capable as the QE class or the french CDG for flights.
However it's redesign has definitely increased the already formidable defensive capabilities the Kuznetsov design enjoyed. The true ships to look out for will be the two flat top carriers being built next; China's Nimitz equivalents.
What's it called? The Admiral Chinkuznetsov? Because I'm not seeing anything more here than a blatant ripoff of the coal-powered Russian aircraft carrier, which everyone takes the piss out of.

Would you stick a made in China dildo in your vagina? Meditate upon this.
Landon Clark
You idiot.
The current Chinese carrier, CV16, is a rebuilt Kuznetsov.. and it doesn't have the smoke issues because China put new & improved components in it.
The newly floated CV17 is a completely redesign of the old Soviet hull; and doesn't use bunker crude boilers as a power supply but instead has CODAD diesel-electric systems.
Robert Walker
show your flag nigger We have had aircraft carriers for nearly 80 years already. China is just now catching up? lol
Jace Reyes
It doesn't change the fact that the aircraft carrier is an outdated piece of shit in the first place even with a working boiler
Brandon Stewart
>boiler Stop being incompetent
Justin Morales
Doesn't make any difference. The only thing that matters on an aircraft carrier is the amount of planes and bombs it can hold along with the maintenance time required until an aircraft is redeployed.
Landon Barnes
Improved components eh? So did they stuff a nuclear reactor, ditch the ski slope and add a electromagnetic catapult then? If not it's shit then.
>Russiaboos and Chinaboos say US naval doctrine is outdated and that carriers are obsolete >meanwhile China is building carriers what did they mean by this?
>The only thing that matters on an aircraft carrier is the amount of planes and bombs it can hold
Then why did they go with a design that cuts down on these significantly vs modern american counterparts? Perhaps because they are militarily small time?

>Italy has two carriers nobody told me Italy was a secret superpower
Jack Reed
>Charles de Gaulle Why do the French name everything after this faggot? He literally was a massive failure.
Kevin Sullivan
They only carry 20 aircraft each, so the two of them together are about as good as the British one
Easton Garcia
I've never seen anything made in China to be quality. Even when they use western technology and designs they still make crap.
I'm sure the shills in this thread will argue this is some how different

The thing to realize in all of this is that war largely comes down to 2 main things:
1) Logistics 2) Experience
This is also why most of NATO is worthless. When France called on NATO to help with Libya, only the UK and US were even capable of responding. Belgium may be part of NATO but they have no logistics capability -- they can't project and maintain power outside of their own nation. They just don't have what it takes to move the war machine, its supplies and people around.
China has the same problem. This is why they haven't simply taken Taiwan by force. If they can't take Taiwan in a week then they can't take it at all because they lack the ability to keep moving and resupplying troops across even the smallest body of water.
This is why the US is still the only real world superpower: we have the experience and we're fucking amazing at logistics.
When we make an aircraft carrier, it's in the full knowledge that we can move it and supply it anywhere in the world.
When China does it, it's a single show piece.
It's also the difference between some new Chinese jet plane that turns into a hanger queen because they can't afford to take it out except for the occasional show and a fleet of American fighters that get used daily.
Basically the Chinese (and Russians) are better at propaganda than actual war.
Adam Bennett
Catapults allow you to lift a heavier plane of the ground with less fuel. So the same plane lifts off with more fuel and bombs on a catapult ship vs a ramp ship.
Jack Wilson
I agree - china is bragging about just now developing tech that the US had two generations ago.

She would unironically.

So based on how it scales for Kuznetsov and Nimitz it should be a 64 jet carrier? Pretty impressive.
Luke Bennett

Made with Chinese steel? and Chinese components?
It'll sink itself. No need to to send missiles after it.
Oliver Bennett
So that Orange piece of shit has his shit made in fucking China instead creating jobs in America. Nice. LMAO
Bragging about the number of carriers you have is like bragging the amount of battleships you had in 1941. If you can't understand this reference you're a fucking faggot.
Jose Hernandez
Im working on an american flagged tanker whose hull was made in china. This motherfucker is two years old and literally falling apart because the quality of chink steel is such garbage.
Chinese only make garbage.
Wyatt Walker
Yes, you said aircraft carriers are outdated. China is bragging about just now building one.

>China >land power >aircraft carrier It’s just an ego thing.

HAR HAR RITE MERN. WE BEATEN WOO. WE WROO ROO RA WROLD. HAR HAR. RITE MERN ARE RORRIBAL PEEPER. CHIN CHONG CHANG!
Same as how the Americans have pro-Battleship groups even though the concept of such platforms are obsolete today as the Aircraft carrier replaced it.
Until something else comes along that can project power as good as an aircraft carrier air wing, then the carrier isn't obsolete.
Wow, great comeback, I'm obviously dealing with someone who knows what he's talking about.
No. In the CV16 they installed an improved version of what was already in there, a bunker crude boiler (Iowa Class battleship technology). However they upped the tolerances & added atmospheric boost so they could burn far more efficiently. Thus the less smoke and improved performance. In CV17, they replaced the whole system for diesel engines running generators and turbines for "war power" boost. It both increased available power and decreased the size of the engine rooms allowing for other things to be added (store rooms, bunks, electronics, ammo, who knows).. at the same time CV17 also removed the flight deck missile tubes, allowing for more hangar / machine shop space below. CV16 = Kuznetsov 1.1 CV17 = Kuznetsov 2.0
CV18 & 19 = Nimitz/Ford knockoffs.
Charles Rivera
you're saying that carriers are ineffectual, which is wrong. You can talk military when your country doesn't play secomd fiddle to ours. What would you know when you've never served in a navy and don't know anyone who has? Play armchair admiral somewhere else
William Morgan
Reminder that glorious Chinese culture is 5000 years old
**Training platform The PLAN has never seen it as anything else but an experience builder. The CV17 is the same; except with Chinese modifications that they believe will improve the training experience as it's a far more modern ship.
Their "true carriers" for force projection is the CV18 & 19, and whichever aircraft they finally choose to put on them.
Liam Cook
China: we just built an aircraft carrier! USA: that sucks, bro. China: .... I know, it’s bad on purpose. It’s just for p-p-practice.
Elijah Peterson
All aircraft carriers are obsolete. They are simply a liability. They are good for projecting power onto a weaker enemy, but thats where they stop being useful. Its like a giant fucking target and only takes a single missile to completely obliterate it.
Nolan Long
RUSSIANS are smart not wasting too much money on aircraft carriers because they understand how easy it is to fuck them up with one missile and suddenly planes have no place to land on. In real war aircraft carriers will be first to be sunk. Only stupid Americans think that they are in the advantage with them.
u know that we have secretly armed taiwan with nuclear weapons right? china will never be able to enforce its own version of the monroe doctrine. they are surrounded by people who hate them that we have armed with nukes.
Blake Roberts
>russians are building one themselves for defense of sea trade ways in the polar sea. But Russians are not wasting too much money of building so many of them as Americans do. >All aircraft carriers are obsolete. They are simply a liability. They are good for projecting power onto a weaker enemy,
>They are good for projecting power onto a weaker enemy, And since Americands are specializing in bullying weaker countries they build a lot of them, LOL
If I had as few naval bases spread around the world as China and Russia do, boy oh boy would I want my carriers to carry an unlimited nuclear fuel supply.
Brandon Johnson
Good infographic, but it doesnt mention the sneaky subs that often travel in the group
Jack Myers
NICE !!! Very interesting design. Wonder why they stopped building them.

and one missile hitting the deck and all that caravan is worth shit in a split second. LMAO
>he doesnt know what we have in secret well, i guess that's why it's secret

Brezshnev didn't like it, so funding was relocated.
? Whatever makes you feel better m8.

Battleships don’t have to be obsolete in an era of railguns. There might be some utility in a mobile artillery piece with the ranges railguns are theoretically capable of achieving.
Jaxson Kelly
>Dares to launch anything at a US carrier group >Thinks he wouldn't fly home to an irradiated parking lot as a result
>>he doesnt know what we have in secret Do you understand how stupid you are. How can you have secret military water craft today with all the satellites monitoring ever inch of the Planet. Please engage your brain next time you post. Assuming that you have a brain of course. But you are an American so nothing to be surprised with the level of your stupidity.
They build boats while they are floating in water? So all ships are build by little scuba divers with little hard hats on? How cute. Did not know that. Thanks for the knowledge.
Zachary Phillips
>building Refurbishing; Russia put all plans for a new carrier (the "Storm" design) on hold until after 2025. All funding allocations for the Russian Navy between 2019-25 is for new subs, new small surface combatants (corvettes & frigates), and the repairing & refitting of older large vessels to modern standards.
