You are employing a bunch of engineers who are driving up the housing prices and rents in the area. These same engineers expect to eat out every day and have menial service staff perform menial jobs for them. What incentive do you have to work as a waitress in Mountain View if you can't afford the rents in the area? And traffic grid lock in California is insane so commuting from a low property value area to Silicon Valley is out of the question.
In America you have a situation where you have
1) Areas with jobs + high rents
2) Areas with no jobs + low rents
So unless you want to commute for hours for the Jews or you manage to get a work-from-home gig, you're fucked.

Silicon Valley and a handful of other cities are extreme examples. Overall everything's fine. I live in a city of about 100k with a commute of 12mins. Unemployment is very low. If you don't want to live and work where you currently are, then grow a pair and move somewhere else. The people complaining in SF and Seattle can move if they want to. They aren't entitled to anything. If enough people move, then it'll upset the labor balance in the city forcing them to take more action. Just let market forces run their course.
