Those adults, for the most part, did not create their culture themselves. They were molded by it. And their culture changed dramatically since WW2.
If you look at Japan, I think that you can see the future for western nations for *certain* things. But of course there are big differences. For now, they're maintaining their cultural homogeneity. And they are high IQ and orderly people.
We are not.
There were a lot of laws imposed upon the Japanese after the defeat. It makes sense their culture would manifest itself differently than it did in the past. I worry more for our future than I do for the Japanese. As you say, they are homogeneous and we are not.

I was recently watching some youtube videos about english teachers in japan and they way they talk about their experiences in japan is seriously insane to me. I live in a fairly decent part of the city, but I still feel the need to have an alarm system. I've heard of people driving from the ghetto, literally 30 miles away, to my part of the city, breaking into houses, and stealing nearly everything.

food, travel and late night conversation. They made anime
all about slice-of-life. It was a conscious effort to purge the
entertainment industry of violence, sex, and absurdity,
and replace it with real life concerns instead of fantasy escapism.
This just created an entertainment vacuum that was filled by moe,
which had existed before but suddenly became dominant.
This was actually what the conservatives wanted:
boys being primed to be interested in girls instead of robots and
random game shows where people get electrocuted while running naked
through an obstacle course.
It backfired though because the new landscape lacks role models.
Instead of boys growing up wanting to be like, I dunno,
Ichijyo from Macross, or emulating hedonistic antics of the
"naughty boys" in comedy acts like DownTown they now grow up
wanting to be like the cute girls from Lucky Star.
Its probably the worst in the music industry, adults generally lose
interest in manga but no one stops listening to music.
Even 10 years ago the charts were topped by actual musicians and idols,

and its rare to see any actual song writers or skilled performers.

Most of our governments do want the birth rate to be higher. There isn't much of a will, but there's some will. Not enough to prioritize it over their other plans when they conflict, but still. There are some attempts to encourage people forming new families. It's just not working. They've created a "pussy bubble" instead as some call it, and a lot of guys just give up. That's on top of a lot of the millennials being just too damn poor for it. And now they're starting to get a bit old to start a family, this isn't looking good.
