Why is it called Balkan War music (it's just average patriotic stuff) and why is someone like Roki Vulovic so famous in the West?
I'm a Serb living in Austria and I didn't even know about this particular singer because it's fairly usual music that Croats and Bosniaks are doing too.
Is it bewildering to Westerners because they show cheesy war scenes in the music video? I really don't get it. There's much better music on the Balkans than this stuff.

Roki Vulovic is pretty popular here in Poland. His songs are quite catchy, even those from before the Balkan Wars, when he simply sung about love. You language is similar enough, so we can sing along even if we don't understand exactly what Roki is saying.

There are lots of well educated, highly intelligent people from the Balkans.
It's just that the youth was displaced and spread all over Europe and many old people who didn't have a good education are left behind.
