People need more meaning than just something personal to them, because it's not hard to see through that and realize that the things that matter to you don't really matter. If the only reason things matter is because they matter to you, then if you remove yourself from the equation through suicide, all of a sudden, all mattering will disappear with you.

But if there's something else, a backstop of absolute value and meaning, then nothing you can do will make that go away.
