One of the EU members from France literally said: "If Turkey does not join by 2023, then the Union as we know it might no exist anymore" Although Merkel is heavily against this, and instead wants to create strong ties. At any rate they both realize that Turkey will be the ruler of Europe in the near future.

Another very big factor which plays a role is their international control. Their population is not limited to their own country, therefore there are many Turkish communities all around the world. Many politicians in Europe are Turkish giving them power in other countries. Also their population is nationalistic and willing to die for their country. Also Islam being the main religion gives off good morals to the army and population. A good example was what happened in Rotterdam a couple of years ago. A Turkish politician was not allowed to enter Holland. But Rotterdam's population came on the street with thousands protesting and destroying property.
