It's almost as if Ukraine is a fake country that popped out of Russia in 1990.

Ukraine had a pretty shitty separation from Russia, lots of the leading politicians either fled to Russia or over to Western Europe. It was a terrible dissolution once some corrupted Bureaucrats and Politicians left. Mafias and mobs ruled over many towns and cities. A lot of fucking petty crime took place, there was rape, murders, kidnappings and extortions/threats as well during the 1990's. Plus the Civil Wars going on in the Balkans spilled over to Ukraine since it gave mobs an opportunity to smuggle firearms and weapons.

Plus all of the remaining government infrastructures was non-existent so when fucking something happened in the street 65% police or an ambulance would never show up. Power outages and utility outages were common since the newly founded "government" couldn't fucking care less
There was a lot of threats and bribes/debts to pay if you wanted to get anywhere. Some people weren't even surprised if a friend of their suddenly vanished. Plus it was hard to get in/out of Ukraine you had to have connections if you wanted out.

My own Mom, grew up In Ukraine throughout the 80's and 90's that's all the information I have on it.

Ukraine was the bargaining chip of the West to pacify the post-Cold War balance of powers.

Western powers led Ukraine to give away its nukes in exchange for protection of territorial integrity (Crimea lulz). Then, Russia (and especially Russians) stopped giving a shit about a territory that wasn't theirs anymore, all of the world's grown-up let it turn to AnCapistan during pretty much 15 years.

It serves as a good case study of what happens to a decent country when this country's institutions become useless in 6 months.
