It's not hard to understand OP, communism doesn't work. It goes against everything in our DNA as humans. We are too different, too complex, and if you strip away the people running shit and just go by the fundamental principals of communism, it is a philosophy that strips the individualistic nature of human beings away for the collective, and if you don't have the vast majority of people buying in, it will not work, at least not without using force to achieve it.

Except for those cliches, (Soviet) communism was an authoritarian and fascist state. Having grandfathered universal healthcare, universal education and a few public services is quickly became reactionary and high conservative, albeit in science. Those were done in at time where there seemed to be much greater civic participation in public affairs. While planning the economy can be liked to budgets, there wasnt a department to keep the government responsible and accountable and there was not much feedback to be relayed to the government from the people regarding the said plans and legislatory matters. The people were diplaced considerably by Soviet governors and Soviet corporations.

While capitalism is not perfect, it would seem that is not capitalism but hybrid capitalism. In non-Communist countries with democracy and civil participation (grass roots movements and labour unions) feedback was relayed to the government and departments kept the government reasonably responsible and accountable. Eventually through trial and error a more refined system of governance and economics eventuated. Progress happened much faster than in the USSR despite its steady increments of advancement. Even in European countries universal healthcare, universal education, nationalisation and public services were implemented with their own merits accordingly. So like there are different parties in the democratic countries there would also be different ideologies whereby it becomes a democracy of ideologies too.

The oligarchy at present tried to implement communism and socialism for themselves (Tax breaks, subsidies, grants, trust laws etc )and neo-liberal and anarcho-capitalism for the rest. So an interesting set of affairs as the oligarchy while advocating capitalism they press for their own communism in their enclosures leaving the rest of the populace to neoliberal and anarcho capitalism.

Of course once more civic participation can stop that and return balance, harmony, equity, justice and progress to civilisation.
