The average Dutch person probably has no idea that our ancestors called themselves Nederduitsch until the middle of the 18th century, because this isn't taught at all in schools. Milquetoast Dutch nationalists have a lot of assumptions that never go questioned as a result. Even for people that go beyond civic nationalism, the conclusion is quickly reached that "our ethnicity is the people that live within our borders and aren't brown". At most, people stick to language nationalism and call the Flemish Dutch too.
Dutch national identity (not regional, that is old as it gets) is a post-renaissance and post-hoc creation. It doesn't make much more sense than Belgian nationalism. All the heroes on which this national identity is based considered themselves Low Germans (Low Dutch). It's a bit silly to be a Dutch nationalist without at least acknowledging our kinship with our brothers in the east.

I always am producing something however, just not under the same name. The issue here is that the smaller piece of the irredentist puzzle feels like their individuality is threatened by reunification. Flemish nationalists aren't too keen on reuniting with the Netherlands because of this, and the biggest issue Dutch nationalists bring up towards a Germanic Federation is the same.
