If you're rich, then the most important thing is tax cuts. In fact you're willing to put up with a lot of bullshit as long as you have as low of taxes as possible to keep more of your money. You don't care what they make illegal, if you're rich chances are you'll never get busted for it or even if you do you can hire a good lawyer and get out of prison time for it. Fuck everyone else, you got yours and your money IS your freedom.
The only personal liberty that conservatives really defend is the right to bear arms. Oh they say they're for free speech.. as long as it's speech they agree with, if it's not then it's degenerate and you should go to jail or have violence inflicted on you. Oh they say they're for religious freedom, but it only applies to their religion, not anyone else's in the US' case, that's Christianity. They won't defend religious freedom for Buddhists, Native Americans, Jews, or Muslims. Just Christianity, and mostly in that they want abortion illegal (they call themselves pro life but really it's just a religious thing, after the kid is born they don't want anything to do with it, it can starve to death on the streets for all they care) and gay marriage illegal, etc. Basically they want to reign in lifestyles to abide by the Christian equivalent of Sharia law.... as long as they have low taxes, that's all they need.

Liberals on the other hand, offer their poor asses social programs that can help with the fact that they're poor as fuck and struggle paycheck to paycheck., and also often times value freedom of lifestyle choices, which appeals to them.

If you're a rich conservative who smokes weed, you don't care about it being legal because you can get top quality kush delivered to your door already and the cops will turn a blind eye to you, because you're rich. If you're poor, then weed legalization becomes an important issue, as thats how you'll get better selection , and not risk going to jail.

You act like 8 years of Bill Clinton and 8 years of Obama weren't things they lived through. They've seen both sides. The difference is they've seen Neocon Tax cuts twice (soon to be 3 times) be attempted with the claim that it'll trickle down to them only to result in crushing Recessions towards the end of the Republican President's second term. I'm among the youngest of Gen X and that's what I've seen too. Twice there were tax cuts that gave the majority of the benefits to the rich followed by recessions. Now we're trying it again? To someone my age which the only experience we've had with tax policies like this has been bad results, it seems like lunacy. To Baby Boomers who are older and saw success under Kennedy Tax cuts their experience is different. Plus the Greatest Generation was entering their maximum earning years during the reagan cuts and Boomers were entering maximum earning years in the Bush cuts and now the youngest boomers are entering their maximum earning years under the Trump cuts. If Gen X and Millennials were at the peak of their Careers and making lots of money they'd maybe be welcoming the tax cuts as well.. But look at the timing of the recessions.

1987-1990, That's when the Older Gen x's were first hitting the job market. It shit on them and they got used to dead end jobs like waiting tables and running the counter at retail stores or the like. Just look at the culture that comes out of those years. Grunge Music, movies like Clerks and Reality Bites, Gen X got associated with depression and apathy. Now 2008, the Millennials are starting to graduate from school and hit the job market with their student loan debts and the economy crashes and burns harder than it has ever done since the Great Depression. The boomers that were supposed to be retiring had their retirement accounts get fucked up so they kept working, the Gen X's didn't advance in their careers like they were supposed to when the boomers retired.

Meanwhile those Gen X'ers, now with 5+ years experience in the field, were taking jobs that would have normally went to Millennials fresh out of college. So the Millenials even with STEM degrees, ended up taking shit jobs they were overqualified for, minimum wage jobs. While they have 5 figure student debt. Now suddenly we have a student debt crisis, now suddenly there's a call for higher minimum wage, and thus, Millennials get associated with being entitled and whiny.

Now a 3rd attempt at trickle down economics is being tried, can you really blame people who associate the last two times with career ruining recessions for dreading the effects instead of jumping for joy?
