If the shit hit the fan right now and you had to bug out, what items would you pack into your bag before leaving your home? Even iff you aren't a prepper what items in your house would you deem nessary for your short term survival, it would be interesting to see how smart people really are...
2 videos showing 2 ways to open tinned food with out a can opener, I prefer the first with a knife.
items I would consider important from what I have in my house, I am not a prepper, I instinctively know from experience what it useful and what is not.
These things are fucking amazing, has enough weight that it can be used as a mini machete if necessary, the one I have the blade is part of the handle it self.
knife Sharpener (can also be used as a baton (think secondary weapon in left hand))
Toothbrush (but no need for paste...) small steel Pan with handle smashed off (for cooking) Plastic bowl (big enough to wash in but not big enough that it would be difficult to pack into backpack) 2 spoons (you only need a spoon for eating nothing else, 2 in case I lose one) torch any none perishable foods I have 1 extra set of clothing
anything else is just extra weight, a good knife is a must, string can be found or made, almost anything can be made from raw or man made materials if needed once a base location is established, preferably miles away from undesirables. Clothing worn would be as many warm layers including thermal underwear regardless of time of year, I'm not going for a holiday to the beach I'm going to survive and that is it and cold is more likely to kill than a bit of warm weather in the country I live in.
Tyler Mitchell
you don't need toilet paper, fingers water.

I can march over 100 miles per day with limited weight but that would be pushing it with almost no break in marching, 70 - 80 is more realistic, I could march 32 - 50 miles per day with weight of about 40kg on my back. So my choose of limited items with a decent sized backpack on my back is a sound strategy for getting out of dodge fast!

fast flowing streams are a good source of washing ones self and drinking water so long as it is running fast, clear and isn't just drainage water from drains on the roads.
No oils floating on the top, no odd smells, running clean off the land its normally safe to drink if boiled, always boil it unless you can't.
learn to build animal traps using nothing but natural resources, a rope made out of bark from shrubs holding a large rock up over a tree branch connect to a trigger with bait under the rock for instance. spring trap, strong shrub branch held back by something else which is triggered to release the potential energy in the spring when game steps on to the bait.
Robert Gray
making fire is easy when you know how
step 1 gather lose tinder, it has to be dry, dead tree branches/twigs often fall into shrubs or onto other branches, these are off the ground and exposed to the wind therefore they will be dryer than anything on the ground. Use a knife to carve up some of the small bits of wood into shavings, if its damp put it into one of your pockets so body heat will dry it.
step 2 find a dry straight sturdy stick made of hard wood, then find a dry bit of soft wood, cut a notch/grove at the side of the soft wood, place your tinder close to the notch, put some dry grit or sandy soil into the notch, then place the sharpened end or your hard wood stick into the notch. Use your hands to rotate the hard stick left and right while applying downward pressure, you know what I mean... The friction will be enough because a. the hard wood is roughing up on the soft wood b. the grit adds more friction c. it is dry so it will get very hot
step 3 You will start to see smoke, you push the smoking black soft wood into your tinder shavings and then you start blowing lightly at first.
step 4 you will have a nice fire soon, use dead dry grass as a catalyst if you can
tip, a basic torch can be made using tree sap attached to the end of a broad log
Gavin Mitchell
another tip, you don't need to rotate a stick, desu you could just apply lots of pressure on the right sort of soft wood with hard wood back and forth as fast as you can, you will know it is working because the soft wood start turning black and when that happens just keep going it will soon start to smoke, less than 6 minutes easy
Ryan Ramirez
it is a science that sadly not many people know these days, wood is an insulator but hard would (more condensed) is a bit more conductive than soft wood. Harder woods take more heat to burn, were as soft woods burn much easier, for example a match stick.
Owen Howard
because the heat cannot dissipate as easy.
Kevin Ross
where heat is allowed to gather into one point and you have fuel and also oxygen you get fire once heat is sufficient enough for the fuel to start combustion.
If you could find a glass bottle with a curved base, smash the bottle with base intake, use that on a sunny day in the summer months to start a fire. You can also use mirrors not sure how many, but if you are going to use sun light as your means of fire, then the darker the tinder the better, dark colours absorb and retain more heat.
Luis Williams
start a fire the easy way
1)battery 2)gum wrapper
James Clark
and don't be a fucking mong, I've watched people try to start a fire with a magnify glass and they just don't fucking get it, i guess these people will die first. You have to rotate, tilt, angle the glass so that the brightest point is in the center of the circle of light, then move the glass back and away from source of ignition until you have one bright point of light, do not look directly into it as it can damage your eyes.
Robert Reed
sorry there is not brightest point, the bright light will be around the edge of the circle if i remember correctly, you have to make it as perfect a circle as you can.
some people just don't get angles and shit...
Aiden Hernandez
Disgusting fucking animal
Lucas Wright
like i was a fucking weirdo kid, use to burn shit with my magnifying glass and shit aged 6, i gave it to my friends and tried my hardest to explain to them how to do it. To my shock even some adults were amazed by it and could not do it, this was the 80's i would guess there are a lot more mongs in society these days. you want a pin point as you can get to focus the light into one place that will instantly fry anything, sun light is very powerful even with just one lens.
Jackson Gutierrez
if you can make the battery yeah, you won't always have battery's, battery's typical need acid and 2 metals I think, but I'm not going to google it just yet but its something worth learning for sure.
I'm pissed off with my self for breaking my no drink rule, i'm drunk but this thread I made kind of morphed into me looking into what the fuck do I know rather than what others know. Perhaps we need a Jow Forums survival general where information is pooled so others can learn the bare basics so if the shit hits the fan we can restart civilization relatively fast. You see its ok just bitching and talking about it on this board but if you just sit there you are fucking useless, then you have to ask the question why would any tribe based upon the principles of this board accept you as a member if you don't know jack and just shitposted the whole time?
Carter Barnes
and in these times we don't have time for bullshit no more, shit is just a tick tock away now with recent events. People got to get ready, got to have plans in place, we will know each other by demonstration of knowledge, there will be no code words so to speak...
