Imagine a world without g*rmanics

>mediterraneans spend thousands of years building civilisation, kraut fucks come and destroy it
>the world descends into the dark ages where g*rmanics run wild and pillage everything within reach
>mediterraneans finally free themselves from the "holy" kraut empire and invent renaissance
>civilisation flourishes again
>g*rmanics invent world wars and bomb everything flat
>the kraut is not satisfied yet and invents the refugee crisis
Just what is wrong with these creatures? It's a never ending cycle of ruination.
Imagine how far the mankind could have progressed without their kind constantly fucking up everything.

That implies that history follow some kind of set timeline instead of being more or less accidental outcomes with billions of different possible ones.

The influence of Christianity was mostly positive, as Rome had the problem of falling birth rates, Christianity stopped this trend as it didn't support the the then common practice of abortion.
The Dark Ages was primarily a consequence of the Muslim expansion and piracy killing the Mediterranean trade routes the wealth and cheap literacy (papyrus imports) of the roman empire was based on,
amazon.de/Mohammed-Charlemagne-Revisited-History-Controversy/dp/0578094185
the negative impact of the germanic influence was limited of not trying to reconquer the Mediterranean, making it impossible to sustain the wealth of the empire although we see the attempt to continue the culture (same in Visigoth Spain) which even included minting the coins showing the byzantine emperor as the germanic kings considered themselves to be subject of byzantine.

We see the cultural reawakening of Europe as soon as there was a suitable substitute for papyrus, mass produced paper.

The idea that we were set back to 1000 BC by the dark ages or that renaissance Italy was only as progressed as the roman empire is just.... my word this is a shitty post

Seems like two bombs weren't enough for Hiro.

We have done enough for mobile & ICT development. The shit might be manufactured in Asia, but _none_ of it was invented there.

THE DARK AGES WERE CALLED THE DARK AGES BECAUSE WE DONT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED IN THEM TO THE SAME LEVEL OF DETAIL AS THE SURROUNDING HISTORY

WE ARE QUITE LITERALLY "IN THE DARK"

THEY ARE NOT SOME FUCKING PERIOD WHERE SCIENTIFIC ADVANCE WENT BACKWARDS

YOU CANT EVEN MEASURE SCIENTIFIC ADVANCEMENT ON A SCALE

The dark ages happened because the Catholic church was/is corrupt. Protestantism is a consequence of the that corruption

>You're blaming the wrong group of people.

What are the units of Y ?

That is complete bullshit that only edgy 14 year old atheists believe, Catholic Church is the main reason why western civilization surivived for that long

>The dark ages happened because the Catholic church was/is corrupt. Protestantism is a consequence of the that corruption
Actually, Protestantism is a weird combination of Judaism and Christianity, invented by Jon Wyclif in Britain. He got into lots of shit because people rightly claimed he was just a Jew pawn. That's why it took some time to gain traction, first with famed occultist and Satanist Jan Hus and later on, infamous schizophrenic Martin Luther (whose mother was Jewish).

If you research abit more, Protestantism started out as proto-Communism, trying to stir up the peasants against the "rich and unfair" Catholic clergy. The result were many "Revolutions" accross Europe, which ended up as Communism ultimately.

As always, L2history.

>have more "scientific advance" than ever
>facing impending collapse and annihilation of our civilisation
your meme of "scientific advancement" means fuck all, having a phone is neat, allowing the African population to reach 4 billion in the span of only 200 years is not. we have technology and science without purpose, without meaning, and without any rational end. TV is used for indoctrination, cars are used to drive you to a little box to wageslave in all day, modern medicine is used to murder babies and keep useless old people and crack addicts alive for another 30 years. your love of the material world has enslaved you and will destroy us all.
>could be exploring the galaxy
you can communicate with anyone on the world instantly and you use that power to sit on here shitposting. if you were exploring the galaxy you'd still be a godless little snit leading a meaningless waste of a life, only killing time until you die. it would make no difference to anything and would mean nothing.

Prior to the "Dark Ages" writing was based on papyrus imports.

These stopped during the time of Muslim expansion (piracy/slave raids in the Mediterranean sea ect.)
Scientific advance moved backwards to a certain degree as papyrus if fragile and falls apart in parts of the European climate, making it necessary to create new copies to preserve knowledge.
The available parchment was to expensive to preserve everything, and literacy also dropped drastically due to the cost.
So we could actually say that science moved backwards during this time as knowledge was lost.

Once paper became available we see an increase in literacy and the ability to again use the knowledge that was preserved (often on parchment), which marks the end of the dark age.

So dark age = time when no cheap writing material was available
leaving us in the dark what happened as there is no written documentation.

.. there's also the phantom time hypophysis, but basing it on papyrus imports and later paper production tends to make more sense.

>taking this seriously

The whole story shows how political science is in the 20th century. Disgusting.

This one's also a good read if you're interested in this part of history and the political correctness involved in writing history:

I can't say they destroyed that much.
It was another doing the real destruction.
Also:
>Technology ("science of craft", from Greek τέχνη, techne, "art, skill, cunning of hand"; and -λογία, -logia[2])

>Christian dark ages
You mean Germanic dark ages. The roman empire was still perfectly functional, even after its christianization. It is the Germanic migrations that brought the dark ages upon Europe, not latin Christianity. The centuries leading up to the renaissance signify the time it took for Germanics to settle and civilize themselves, not the excesses of Christian dogmatism. It should be noted that the Catholic church and the various monasteries it operated were the only source of knowledge in early medieval Europe, while it was inconceivable for any secular school to operate independently from church guidance.

The church safeguarded knowledge at a time when Germanics plunged the continent into centuries of strife and ignorance.

That chart is fucking BS

The whole "dark ages" concept is a load of crap invented by a few shitty authors taken as historical.

> Medieval Europe had the best metallurgy
> best ships
> best farming equipment
>Europe made the rolling press
The whole reason why there was a massive leap in science is because of the foundation of tech that was built the world over.

Europe didn't progress until it got gunpowder, paper, and invented the printing press.

The only real reason for a loss in progression was the black plague.

The migration age (400-800) provided little scientific advancement. That period is what most refer to when describing the dark ages.

Bull Shiite.
The huns brought a ton of technology from china, stirrups horse collars
Theory of impetus was put forward in the 6th century
Rome invented the ship mill and paddle wheel boat.
Greek fire was invented in the 7th century.

Warfare drives tech to develop. You can bet your ass they made better siege equipment and weaponry.

Military tech is mostly irrelevant when every civic institution had crumbled. I'm not denying that there was some minor advancement, but it was comparatively negligible to what could have developed under less turbulent circumstances.

Military tech leads into other uses
Europe was forged by war.
Metallurgy was consistently ahead of the rest of the world
When Chinggis brought cavalry tactics and gunpowder to europe they had the best of both within a generation.

Without the exchange of technology from china brought by this warring period development would be substantially slowed. It took century's for paper-making to make it to europe.

Unironically I despise angloids and germanics. They're more ruinous than even niggers, they're some type of subhuman for certain, deformed and retarded. that's why I'm delighted about the situation of londonistan and the germanic caliphate. You deserve rape.
Also fun fact: Max Stirner utterly despised Germany and took entire pages to rag on it and the german people.
bantzmaster.

Back then christianity was as extreme as islam is. Took 1000 years of europe to water it down back to something that reaembled europe prior to that. Eventually europe won over extreme christianity. But islam. It may take 2000 years.

But dont go blaming God for the faults of men.

Like what? Look at the 400 years before the migration period. The Roman Empire even when stable was pretty stagnant technologically. They spread ideas and refined them but new innovation was not all that common.
