/SIG/ Self Improvement General vI

The goal here is to turn yourself into the best person/citizen/fmily member.

1 - Get clean. Personal hygene will greatly improve your life and is a good starting point.

2 - Workout. Get a gym membership and go 2-3 times a week or even 4-5 if time permits.

3 - Keep your car and house tidy. Always keep it clean and tidy just as you would if someone very important was about to visit.

4 - Get a job. If you are fresh out of highschool, get a job, any job until you go to college. If you are still in school, get a summer job, any job. No job is shameful.
This will allow you to earn some money, teach you respect towards working. It will also help you meet people who may need in the future. You never know who you meet.

5 - Organize your finances. Start by getting a wallet and keeping all money arranget neatly inside it.
Calculate your income and expenses every day/week/month and keep tabs on how you can improve it - What you need vs. what you want.

6 - Start saving money to invest in a business or in something that can generate passive income on the side.

7 - Read a book at least every month. Subjects can include: philosophy, politics, history, science-fiction, self-improvement, business, management, mindset.

8 - Go to school if you haven't finished highschool or start going to college for a good degree.

9 - FORGET THE PAST - never, ever dwell on the past. What's done is done and cannot be undone. Learn from your past experiences and apply it to the future.

10 - Always think on how you can improve your life.

11 - Move out. If you still live with your parents, move out, doesn't matter that it will be hard, things will get way better with time and its the best way to know yourself and organize yourself.

12 - Always be there for your family. Family is the closest friend you have. If its a toxic environment, forget them (see Step 9).

13 - Join the army for basic training. If you are up to it, do it. This will improve your life even more.

14 - Check your health. At least once a year (idealy twice a year), go to a doctor for a basic check-up for any health issues.

15 - Stop eating junk food. Don't replace junk food with healthy junk.

This is just the first version of this. Will improve the improvement thread with time.

>11 - Move out. If you still live with your parents, move out, doesn't matter that it will be hard, things will get way better with time and its the best way to know yourself and organize yourself.
I REALLY want to do this, but I can't work as I'm studying. Should I start working and studying at the same time so I can sustain myself financially while living alone? Or should I wait to finish my career, land a job and go live by myself (this seems like such a long time to wait)?
Also, good thread. Bump.

If you're still studying and its really time intensive, no need. It will just create useless pressure on you and your income which you really don't need at this point.
If you think you're up to it, go ahead, get a part time job to get some money. It would be great if you could rely on your parents for assurance in case you need some more money as an emergency.

Just as a note. These are the steps I took to improve myself after failing school, failing starting my own business, failing in relationships and depression with one suicide attempt.

Thank you, user.
>These are the steps I took to improve myself after failing school, failing starting my own business, failing in relationships and depression with one suicide attempt.
How are you doing now?

Good stuff, Romaniabro. This and pastabro's SIG is the TRUE SIG, and shouldn't be moved to Jow Forums. This shit is immensely important, so bumping.

OP here. Pretty good. I can sustain myself easily and also improved my life immensely.

bumpety bump

Nice thread fren

This is just the first version. Better ones with citations, examples and videos will come.

It's really nice to see threads like this in this place. Don't give up boys, our future is in our hands.

user I got problem with diet, I ain't fat nor untrained but can't escape from junk at least 2 a week, please enlighten me

The only issue is, some faggot mod will move it to Jow Forums in a few seconds.

BAD GOYS! Be cattles and stop improving yourself!

I was doing all this and more. But in the last few weeks, I've sort of gotten lazier and lazier. I went from 180 to 210, eating nachos and cookies and sour cream. I quit my accounting job and did a week of Munsters, Gomer Pile, and the Simpsons. As this was going on I developed a really bad heroine habit. My 10/10 girlfriend left me and cheated on me. So to get her back I went and slept with the guy she cheated on me with. I'm not proud of it. And now I think I might have something like anal herpies. And I haven't drank any water or liquids in 3 days due to meth use.

Depends on you little creature. If you are young and dumb, yes get a part time job. You have the energy to do both. But part of this is knowing yourself, I'm a little older and full school with part time job burns the candle at both ends for me. I can earn enough from the stock market . Schools often have work for the students and the pay is shit, but the hours are totally flexible. As long as you have planned correctly, the time should find itself.

On Time Keep a Memento Mori on you at all times. One of those little dot charts with weeks or days of life is really quite a motivator.

This is the best thread on this bird right now

This depends on your mentality. Just concentrate on not eating junk. If you want to drink soda, just go and drink water even if it doesn't make you feel good like the soda would. Feel like eating candy or other junk food? Just drink some water as that will take away your cravings. I would recommend smoking but I had that vice before starting the improvement stuff and that helps a bit. Even two puffs. And don't buy the shit food you are eating, if you don't have it stashed in your home, you won't crave it and most likely wont get up to go and buy it (this helps you save money too).

kek, pretty good.

Organizing your time is a step I will include when the detailed list comes (some steps to do it).

Good copypasta dude

Actual decent advice from OP, the other sig copypasta is cringy and really weird....barely applicable to real life.
The stuff you said is great.

Bumping this thread so maybe ONE (1) polster can make a good decision today.

A certain amount of self destruction is present in almost everyone. Some of us smoke, some of us masturbate too much, drink too much, eat poorly.

Ask yourself this; is the junkfood stopping you from obtaining some fitness or health goal? Is it costing you too much money? Is it making you feel terrible every time you submit to it?

If not, then is your stress about the junk food worse than the junk food itself? Maybe just accept that you have a sweet tooth.

OR QUIT IT FAGGOT

Attached: 1498111366262.png (1920x1080, 865K)

I'm sometimes in these threads, and I find then really helpful. Don't have a job at the moment but I've started running around a lake a few times a week and it is really helping me break out of low periods.
Also, I recommend listening to podcasts while you run. That way you're learning and being productive at the same time. I am currently training to take on some of the local bush runs and hikes in my area.
Sorry for the blogpost. Just nowhere else to rant about shit and appreciate the /sig/ community. Thank you friends for making these.

Powerwalking the treadmill rn

>Good copypasta dude

Its OC but I hope ppl will start reposting this and newer versions.

If I have time between study & exams I will make this into a copypasta and also make some glorious infographs and SIG images

Does anyone have any advice for someone studying math for their undergrad? I have no interest in pursuing higher education but I’m scrambling to find a summer internship and nothing seems to be working out.

...

Jow Forums here. I can expand on 5 at least.

What does organized finances really mean? It means every purchase is accounted for. Today this is quite easy with places like mint.com. Its my fave, b/c "free with ads" But there are other accounting software packages available.
One Caveat though. Some people just cannot for the life of them feel the financial impact from swiping a card. This system will not work for them. If this is you You've got some deeper issues, download ebin Pagan's self made wealth program and do it. People act very very irrationally around money, b/c of faulty assumptions and psycho bullshit and this program has you go through your individual b/s to find it. If you go through this and cards are still fucking you up, stick with the envelope system of writing down preplanned spending on envelopes and fill the envelopes with cash. The only envelope you're allowed to carry with you daily is the "free spend" envelope.
That said Okay now you're tracking your spending. You'll need 3 bank accounts. Some banks like cap1 offer "sub" accounts which is just as good. Incoming, Spending, Savings. The Incoming account never ever ever gets touched. From it all your monthlies get paid. One of those Monthlies is the spending account. Say you're only allotted $200 of guilt free spending, You'll have that sent from incoming to spending. Guilt free is last btw. You'll organize your bills in such a way, that they all get paid in order. Say last day of the month is Payday, give yourself a buffer of 4 days before distributing everything, but Big bills first, They should fall on the 4th, Your smaller bills should be billed on the 5th, Your savings should hit on the 6th, and your free spend should drop on the 7th.
What this does is give you one number. If your bank account has less than this number On the First or will have less than this number. You must act. Call your bank stop the transfers, in reverse order. cont...

Internship in what exactly? Outside of statistics, mathematics has been a generally wasteful degree.
>Can't program
>Don't know how to operate within a business
>Don't know accounting
The whole thing is with a math background these would be easy to learn but no one wants you to spend your internship learning, they want a worker.

If you're below Junior level then just get a job at Panera Bread or something.

Improving yourself in the micro effects the culture (and politics) in the macro

Bump. Great presentation.

>FORGET THE PAST - never, ever dwell on the past. What's done is done and cannot be undone. Learn from your past experiences and apply it to the future.

How bros? How?

Math bro here, 2 years out of school working in quantitative finance. What year are you in?

Get good grades, go to the career fair, and send out as many resumes as you can to banks, prop shops, hedge funds, insurance companies (actuarial sciences) etc. Network. Read up on the intersection of math and finance. Take measure theory and then a graduate level probability class. Be a beast

That’s my issue. A math degree pretty much shows that I’m smart but has no professional training involved. How would you suggest I supplement my degree? I’ll start teaching myself programming.

Good to know. You're an inspiration then.

My grades are mediocre but I’ll definitely follow that advice I’m good at interviews and face to face discussions, that’s always been my advantage so I’ll maximize it. Thanks for the advice I’ll make sure to follow through.

Keep these posts up!

LEARN PYTHON- PANDAS. NUMPY. SCIPY. LEARN BY SOLVING PROBLEMS, TRY PROJECT EULER

DO NOT FALL FOR THE MATLAB/R MEME.

I’m a third year, graduating in five.

>quantitative finance
Good goy.

What this guy says and if you can minor in accounting and/or specialize in statistics.

Matlab is required for some of my upper division classes, thanks for the advice though.

>We can post absolutely everything because everything has a effect in politics.
You deserve blacked threads.

>9
Nope, I'm fucked. I actually already follow 1-8 and have a good job and maintain myself pretty well, but I feel like I can't ever stop regretting all the dumb shit I did when I was younger.

Learn the derivatives markets. You'll be competing against jocks 9/10. Stock market and the like are like shooting fish in a barrel once you learn it. If you have a math degree, you can simultaneously market your services to the pros as well as taking part in operations.

Worst thing that can happen is you hate being behind a desk after earning buckets of cash, and go start a farm or whatever the fuck you want b/c you've got cash and know how to earn it sitting at your computer.

The more boring the job the more it pays in finance typically. If you want to play around with bonds, and swaps, Which are mathematically easy, just some weird inverse principles. You'll be making big cash for little effort.

Also get your schedule better people apply for these internships months in advance.

Check out all the local finance people in your area. So few people even care to know about these basics, let alone kids with math degrees.

don't waste your time at panera. That job is soul crushing.

>get a job, any job
Impossible, only members of the (((ruling party))) receive jobs here.

I really appreciate the advice, I won’t let you down.

Nothing wrong with finance. Someone needs to do it. Especially once we purge the jews. Capital management is drudgery but if mishandled can be disastrous for multiple people Up and down the production chain.

That's the point.

If you have a hard time forgetting the past, I recommend reading "Meditations" by Marcus Aurelius.

The Emperor's Handbooks edition is the best one.

Gonna go lift today. Lifted last 2 days, took a break today.

Tell me more about this.
How do I Invest in business besides stocks?

>Super healthy lifestyle (work out heaps)
>Super healthy diet (mostly vegetables and lean meat)
>Don't drink very often
>Don't smoke or do drugs
>Socialise regularly

>Can't do anything involving finances or independence because I can't find a job here and 64% of new jobs created in this country last year went to foreigners
>Where I live has monstrous unemployment across the board, but especially among young white men
>Can't join the Army
>Family hates me

All I can say is that, at the very least, I am doing everything in my power to improve my person. I am not strong enough to fight against an entire economic and social system alone, but at least I can exercise and read and all that. Reading is actually hard because the libraries around here have all been massively defunded and only have really crappy self-help books and guides to learning Chinese.

Maybe forget is the wrong word. Acceptance is a better way to put it. Synthesize your past experiences so that you are in a better position tomorrow. Like the OP said

As far as actually getting over something. Remove triggers in your life that bring forth negative thoughts, at least temporarily. Reintroduce when the feelings diminish. Repeat as necessary

Lol I work there that's why I recommended it. It's soul crushing but you're guaranteed a job with minimal hassle acquiring it.

Pick yourself up mate! You still can do better than you can imagine! Don't surrender!
Anyway i suggest you to pray

What’s wrong with Matlab/R?

You should search for work in banks or secret services, they always need math guys

Can someone explain how I’m 190 lbs, 6’1 at around 19% body fat? I’m relatively strong but I don’t have large muscles. My body looks like this. Most people my height with this body are at most 170 pounds

If you can stand reading from a screen rather than a page, and can work search functions, you can check out libgen.io they have a massive selection of ebooks that you can put on your phone/tablet and read from there. Literally found a $180 engineering textbook I needed for one of my classes 20 minutes ago

I can't stand a screen for books, sadly. Last time I sat down to read a book I devoured 300 pages in one sitting, but when I try to read them on a screen I get bored after a few minutes.

Man, if you are not in the cities pick a piece of land and grow your food, it doesn't need to be expensive machinery, if you manage it right you could spare some goodof money
If you have little space try acquaponics or hydroponics in your garage

1) why would a company use a technology that is being made obsolete by open source computing like python? Look up “programming language index” and check the trends for yourself

2)I unfortunately fell for the matlab and r meme in college myself. In the real world, old, slow, laggard companies with emphasis on clientele business have “quants” that use matlab. If that’s what you wanna do that’s fine, but I found myself at a disadvantage having to learn python (in the sense of learning the applied math oriented packages) a over, and would have benefitted had I been taught python in university.

There are obvious benefits to number 3, but I don't understand why people create and maintain an unnatural version of where they live.

Your home is an extension of yourself. Without conscious manipulation it will end up the way that you like it/ or function best within it. The smell, what clutter you keep, where certain stuff is stored all make it yours and no-one elses. Creating this clean idealised version of it like others were going to come in and judge you at any second can't be mentally healthy. Worse, it might actually change your personality to match the sterile version of your home.

The car is different. That shit is in public where others have to see it. Have some common decency.

You can invest in stock just to have something to pull money from when you need it. But make sure its stable so you won't lose. You will need to think of a business to start it. Analyze your area and see what could work. This is pretty situational.

Adipose tissue. Cut carbs a bit and salt. Overall you're pretty healthy. Looking like a greek god statue takes years of working out and a good diet.

I didn't mean sterile. Keep your house tidy. Don't have clothes thrown on the sofa in the living room, shoes all over the place, dishes in the sink, a dirty table or counter, dust and other stuff on the floor etc. My house is tidy but all my stuff placed where it should be makes it mine (and now my girlfriend/future wife's).

I think I finally have the ball rolling lads. I just finished my bachelors degree, I have a job in the industry I like, I have an opportunity to get a potential promotion, money is finally coming in at a decent rate and today I’m signing up for a gym membership.

My only problem is letting go of the past, any advice?

Get ready. It's gonna be big.

Tbh once you get started at that gym it’ll be way easier to move on from past traumas. I started working out immediately after my last breakup and I swear to god it made the recovery process like 10x faster. Something about gains just makes it easier to bring about change from within yourself, rather than focusing on bad things that happened externally. I just got done working out so pardon me if that was unintelligible nonsense lol

So if your shorfall is bad enough that you have to stop the system, and extend your payments, you'll need to find temp work on the weekends to fill the gap Most temp work pays $20 an hour so you can usually make up for shortfalls in the $400-$500 range using that. You may need to apply for credit and balance transfers. If you have a credit balance you absolutely need to work on the weekends.

Time for the advance plan. Capital growth and savings managment. You need a War Chest. Without a War Chest you're fucking useless. Life is going to throw Mr McStruggles at you. 99/100 You can just pay the guy to go away with a money axe. This is the Emergency fund. Your emergency fund is going to grow as you acquire more capital. Mo' Money Mo' Problems. The tiers are $500, $1k, $6k, $25k, $100k, and by that time you can afford some risk management consultants to better allocate your risk. If you're starting a new venture from scratch, or have inconsistent income b/c you work on some kind of project basis. You need to straight up double these numbers. You absolutely need a buffer account to make your shit work. You cannot be spending all your time putting out fires. You may need to shift these numbers around too based on your specific employment and expense numbers. beyond 1k. You'll need to fill 6-12 months of expenses with your savings based on unemployment projections. At 6k savings you've escaped the pitfalls of most of life. You'll likely be having sex on the regular, and adding comforts to your life. This is fine but don't forget to redouble your efforts. You're going to be chilling at each level for a while, once you reach that threshold, You're going to be filling the Battle Chest looking for some new investment of time and resources to make gains in your cashflow. You should be looking for investment opportunities, to get you to the next savings tiers.
Remember investments before expenses. cont...

No need to apologize I know all too well about the post workout high. I crave it again that’s why I’m signing up, the problem is finding a gym that isn’t retardedly expensive.
