This is precisely the problem. 99% of the problems in society that make marriage and fatherhood bad deals for men are state sanctioned. They're the laws that lead to extreme bias treatment of men, putting all the responsibilities on us while simultaneously offering women all of the rights.

The problem is always the same with the state. They create laws to use force to solve social problems, that always have unintended consequences. So they introduce no fault divorce to basically hand over the power to women to divorce men whenever they like, for whatever reason they like (or no reason at all) and then take half of the stuff.

The unintended consequence is that men get raped in divorce court and so men no longer want to get married. And looking at the stats since no fault divorce, marriage has been on a steep and steady decline.

But government wont repeal bad laws, what they do is the one thing they know how, which is create more laws and use more violence to try and fix the unintended consequences of the first law. So the fallout in the UK right now is that men won't marry, women cohabit with men assuming common law marriage will give them equal rights to the home/assets and actually that's not true.

But here we are, violence to the rescue again. Because going through parliament now is a bill to basically give couples rights to financial settlements (against each other) if they cohabit for more than 3 years. No marriage needed, basically alimony without the contract.
