In the 60s the "Larkin Plan" was executed by our president (((Frondizi))) and dismantled 30% of out almost 50.000 km of railroads, the largest in Latin America. With more than 200.000 employees working at the time, the massive firing of 70.000 of them obviously created high tensions and violence. Another spark to fuel the 60s terrorism that was forming. In the 70s the Junta suppressed half of the stations, fired half of the personnel and dismantled 1/$ of the railroads. It was terrible and that started to give immense power to the truckers. Power that they used to make massive striker to the Alfonsin government in the 80s.
In the 90s Menem just sold most of them accusing the lack of profit to the state for the terrible conditions they presented. Of course that meant the boom of long distance buses and the truckers are now one of the most powerful Unions in the country.
