Why the fuck would there be a correlation? If a CEO gives shit return, the board won't cut his pay to reflect the stock, but they fire him and hire a new one for the same salary in the hopes that he'll do better.

Need a real big brain to intuitively understand what that means for the chart.
I'm still thinking it over.
If they choose 200 companies with very similar revenues and profits, this chart would be meaningless. It's obvious that even if there were a correlation, it would still not completely dictate company earnings. if this inaccuracy is about the same quantity as the total variety in company earnings, this chart would always look like it does.
