They have a monopoly over online retailing. As great as Amazon is (I like the service) they're still a monopoly, which allows them to cut costs. Inevitable they'll raise prices because there won't be anyone there to compete against them. They'll have the ability to transport things for pennies and they'll be able to offer prices lower then any other competitor because of their scalability. The dilemma here is, convenience or freedom of choice.

A huge market share isn't the same as a monopoly. A monopoly is 100% market share/no competitors. There are literally tens or hundreds of thousands of online retailers out there. I may order from Amazon 90 times out of 100, but sometimes there are other retailers that fill a niche and offer products Amazon doesn't, that have a better deal, etc. Really Amazon's prices aren't even that great a lot of the time, depending on what you buy. But if you have Prime, the free 2-day and cheap overnight shipping is a nice perk and probably why most people do their everyday online shopping there.
