I've watched Dateline a lot, too. They rarely have shows where the killer is a LEO. For that matter, they rarely have shows where the killer is a nigger.
Consider that the show requires a mystery that drags on for years. Right there you've eliminated most idiotic criminals, so there will be a bias in who gets featured.
