Did they even release camera footage yet? It's entirely possible that if there is footage of it it's being hidden and edited to try to fit the story the feds wanted us to believe at first, because this story actually does make them look really, really, really fucking bad. As someone who lives in Las Vegas I can definitively tell you that whole night everyone in the city was fully convinced of multiple shooters. I'm like 1 block from New York New York every night at work, including the night of the shooting - seeing people who ran directly from the gunfire over their heads. Everyone swore up and down that shots were fired from different positions in the city.

So the answer to that would be, they didn't, they weren't even in the room to begin with.

Common semi auto rifles (AR-15s, AKs, etc) like the ones Paddock used aren't designed to fire that many rounds that rapidly as they will overheat and suffer a mechanical failure to the heat expansion of the barrel and the action.

Paddock supposedly countered this by using a bunch of rifles and firing them until they jammed or the 100 round magazine was empty then moving on to the next rifle.

Now if Paddock had gotten a class III license to purchase an actual machine gun or if he'd acquired one off the black market he could have killed a lot more people. An old fashioned WWI era Vickers water cooled machine gun could have fired thousands and thousands of rounds without even needing to reload and could have been readily cooled with water from the sink.
