What are humanity's plans for when the oil starts to run dry? Do we even have any plans? Why isn't everyone freaking out about this?

You're gonna be dead by then anyway
Boomer here. I don't give a fuck I'll be dead..you kids will figure something out.
Yeah, but I don't want the people alive then to have to suffer. What about any of my descendent? Am I just supposed to not have kids?
>the 27 year old boomer who thinks he can escape the effects of his fat lifestyle
>am i the only one
no, they've been working on alternatives for years and with capitalism you can be sure major car companies have backup plans in case oil runs low, they need a new fuel source if they want to stay in the market so they've been working on it forever as well
The alternatives already exist. They simply arent getting applied because they arent as remunerative as the current fossil fuel options.
Don’t worry bro, zero point energy is coming, humanity is gonna figure it out.
Believe.
thorium reactors and cold fusion.
>der erwige boomer
accidental reply, have a free (you).
>Believing oil is a fossil fuel
You dumb nigger.
That looks like me
thx bae
Higgs Boson research.
We got nuclear energy out of the atom.
The higgs will give us unfathomable energy.
Yes we will burn the bodies of fat boomers. That should hold us over for awhile.
Of course it's going to make nuclear bombs look like molotov cocktails but w/e.
>We split the atom
No you didn't.
Assume fusion reactors come online and it's cheap electricity.
There is a method to convert sea water and carbon dioxide with electricity to liquid fuel.
smithsonianmag.com
My race heritage did. Sorry nigger.
Jfc this autism is annoying even by Jow Forums standards.
We don't have any plans. We misses our window to ever become anything beyond humanity. Enjoy your slow agrarian extinction.
Life always finds a way:

Where do you think you are, kike?
If its not a fossil fuel, what is it?
Without oil, how will you shitpost about happenings from your mother's basement? No oil = 99% of our industrial infrastructure can't operate properly
Anytime anybody cites the statistic "99%" on the internet you can be certain that it's a thoroughly researched number and not just pulled directly from an anus.
while this article bitches about having enough CO2 for the process, just put it downstream from a Fischer–Tropsch process plant, which turns coal into liquid fuels. CO2 is a byproduct. (We have 100's of years worth of coal.)
eia.gov
"Based on U.S. coal production in 2016 of about 0.73 billion short tons, the recoverable coal reserves would last about 348 years, and recoverable reserves at producing mines would last about 23 years. The actual number of years that those reserves will last depends on changes in production and reserves estimates."
For you autists, Nazi Germany was using Fischer-Tropsch to make liquid fuel.
en.wikipedia.org
History
Max Planck Institute for Coal Research at Mülheim an der Ruhr/Germany.
Since the invention of the original process by Fischer and Tropsch, working at the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Institut for Chemistry in the 1920s, many refinements and adjustments were made. Fischer and Tropsch filed a number of patents, e.g., U.S. Patent 1,746,464, applied 1926, published 1930.[12] It was commercialized by Brabag in Germany in 1936. Being petroleum-poor but coal-rich, Germany used the Fischer–Tropsch process during World War II to produce ersatz (replacement) fuels. Fischer–Tropsch production accounted for an estimated 9% of German war production of fuels and 25% of the automobile fuel.[13]
Abiotic
Lets say you don't want to mine coal.
Try Algae fuel
en.wikipedia.org
Algae fuel, algal biofuel, or algal oil is an alternative to liquid fossil fuels that uses algae as its source of energy-rich oils. Also, algae fuels are an alternative to commonly known biofuel sources, such as corn and sugarcane.[1][2] Several companies and government agencies are funding efforts to reduce capital and operating costs and make algae fuel production commercially viable.[3] Like fossil fuel, algae fuel releases CO2 when burnt, but unlike fossil fuel, algae fuel and other biofuels only release CO2 recently removed from the atmosphere via photosynthesis as the algae or plant grew. The energy crisis and the world food crisis have ignited interest in algaculture (farming algae) for making biodiesel and other biofuels using land unsuitable for agriculture. Among algal fuels' attractive characteristics are that they can be grown with minimal impact on fresh water resources,[4][5] can be produced using saline and wastewater, have a high flash point,[6] and are biodegradable and relatively harmless to the environment if spilled.[7][8] Algae cost more per unit mass than other second-generation biofuel crops due to high capital and operating costs,[9] but are claimed to yield between 10 and 100 times more fuel per unit area.[10] The United States Department of Energy estimates that if algae fuel replaced all the petroleum fuel in the United States, it would require 15,000 square miles (39,000 km2), which is only 0.42% of the U.S. map,[11] or about half of the land area of Maine. This is less than 17 the area of corn harvested in the United States in 2000.[12]
there are huge reserves of oil - far more than we can use in centuries.
some of it is hard to get to of course - but the point is that we actually must not use it - (InB$ climate change is hoax - it isn't we have to stop putting CO2 out) so the crisis is not what do we do when we run out (we won't - and we are developing alternatives asfast as possible anyway) it is what do we do to stop using it now.
running out now would be a good thing, in comparison to keeping using it.
This. America has 200+ years of coal reserves (which can be converted to petroleum products) even if we continued exponential growth and derive ALL of our energy from domestic coal.
Not saying that’s ideal, but push comes to shove we will
Algae is boss tier. Flood the New Mexico desert with seawater and wed have unlimited energy for life
Fun Fact - that was what Auschwitz was built to do - provide slave labour for the coal oil producing plant. (then later slave labour for all sorts of war effort production) which is why they did the selection process and just killed the non fit to work.
But I mean, it's not just used a source of fuel, it's also necessary in maintenance, lubrication, manufacturing the electronics that allow us to actually operate our infrastructure, etc.
We could hypothetically replace the *fuel source* of oil with ethanol, fusion, etc. but how will we replace the massive fuckton of products that specifically require oil to be made / function?
That's the job of the Oil refinery. It's called cracking and reforming.
en.wikipedia.org
Petrochemistry is a branch of chemistry that studies the transformation of crude oil (petroleum) and natural gas into useful products or raw materials. These petrochemicals have become an essential part of the chemical industry today.
rape
>run out of oil
You fell for the fossil fuel meme...a Rothschild brain child.
you have no idea how much oil there is. peak oil scare was 50 years ago and we actually have way more access to oil than ever before.
Absolutely correct. Have a (You).
Still fun as a thought experiment though.
What about the diesel engine? They run on biodiesel, although not as efficiently as regular diesel... but wouldnt it better to have a diesel car get 30mpg on some biodiesel than 50mpg on regular diesel? Its still getting good mpgs. Should just grow hemp for biodiesel
Thanks
Sure, the MSM has been pushing this idea for a great many generations, boomers are especially susceptible to the con as they were the first to be subjected to rising fuel prices due to scarcity.
The first diesel engine was run on hemp seed oil...really makes you think.
Wouldnt even need all the emissions crap for biodiesel either
Wow, Jow Forums is full of STEM nerds. Who'd've thonk it.
>What are humanity's plans for when the oil starts to run dry?
Not gonna happen before at least a few more centuries. Don't believe ecologists' lies.
Burn it at sea. Ships should run on it
I mean gasoline not diesel
yeah, don't have kids
You? No, you shouldn’t.
>oil
>running out
yep...then they decided to use "corn" as a bio diesel when shit like sugar cane could do just as good....
but hey...the world needs more sugar
They could of course promote the production of crops like kennaf for biodiesel but that would be a little too logical..somebody would lose profits.
nah it still makes some nasty fumes.
peanut oil is the best for 2-stroke engines - the Yamaha racing team developed a peanut oil mix for their motorbikes and were on the verge of creating a bio two stroke about thirty years ago when the regulations against two stroke got so tough they just dropped it.
Finally, someone asks the question. I'm proud of you for merely caring, unlike many.
Funny you should say that. Thermal depolymerization plants can break down organic matter into oil at a net profit cost. It isn't much, but with oil being necessary for food, medicine, military and more, you better believe we're not letting those bodies go to waste when the day of the pillows arrives at last.
If you're only thinking of the energy side of oil, you're missing the bigger picture. Oil is in just about everything we make and use in some form. Go into your living room and find 10 objects made without the aid of oil, in either transport, energy or chemical composition.
Hemp makes more sense, it grows fucking rapidly and doesnt require as much input, needs less water and has the strongest fibers
thorium is ridiculously corrosive and does not work practically in a reactor unless you want to irradiate china. and cold fusion is a stupid idea for so many reasons the for most being that it does not work.
Or make them hydrogen, use petroleum to make hydrogen
Hemp is fantastic but look up hibiscus cannabinus..similar looking to hemp/marijuana with some of the same properties:
1)rich seed oil
2)fantastic to make fiber
3)20% protein (leaf)
4)grows as quickly as hemp
5)grows in semi arrid regions
6)pest resistant as fuck
Can't grow hemp in brazil so I started with a heirloom kennaf plantation...absolutely remarkable plant.
The red flower variety is more for seed while the white flower variety is more for fiber.
By nature, diesel or biodiesel produces a lot of NOx by nature of it running a lean mixture. My car has a Bluedef injector (think horse piss) that is injected into a reactor with the exhaust to reduce that to N2 and water vapor. My car can run up to B20. Only thing with Biodiesel is don't let it sit around. Likes to absorb water from the air.
here is a pic:
flowersofindia.net
Dank. Never knew about kennaf.
How quickly does it deplete the soil though?
I wonder if using regular hemp to filter out emissions would work better than a bunch of stupid complex solutions
Desalination technology >Clean water used to generate Sodium Hypochlorite as potable/irrigation and extraction of hydrogen to be used for propulsion >gas stations now offer petro/hydro fuel/solar charged batteries for vehicles using multiple motive force mechanisms
It supposedly replenishes the soil
>oil
>running out
Hahahahaha
It is not a nitrogen hog like hemp, I grow it on the shittiest part of my land, hard ass sand/clay mixture. I usually grow it with Castor bean plants...they grow well together as Castor bean provides a fantastically rich seed meal high in nitrogen.
Kenaf is one of the few plants that I need not worry about, requires very little water
BONUS: Infrastructure is expanded to allow a more effective 'Work From Home' scenario, where employees no longer need to drive into work for no reason at all. commute time is 30 seconds. Business casual becomes house shoes and a robe. Homeschooling just makes logistical sense +it's cheaper
Indeed, it does replenish the soil and needs little nitrogen on its own. It is not a woody plant so it can grow to 3 feet tall within less than a month.
NOx is really nasty stuff. I don't blame the government trying to scrub that shit. A horse piss injector is the only one I'm aware of that's really effective. Volkswagen tried to get around that in their diesel engines with some sort of NOx trap that didn't work for shit. Thus them cheating their emission testing. A tank of Bluedef goes for 10,000 miles. I just have them top it off when I go in for oil changes.
Forgot to mention as an added bonus:
To produce new plants all you need is to cut the tops and place them in water for 1 week, they will root easily. I can take over 10,000 cuttings in less than a month.
This honestly the best chance we have at replacing oil on the energy side of matters. If we tried burning coal to make up for the amount of oil we use, the planet would be incapable of supporting life withon 6 months ) and that's a really generous estimation.)
Faster than pine trees. Regions of america farms pine its so fucking dumb since it takes 30 years to grow. If we didnt build houses out of wood we wouldnt need to farm pine trees
Huh; neat.
Plants are crazy cool but in america someone would bitch about pirating a plant that someone copyrighted somehow
The game plan is either find a new source of energy - ideally geothermal, nuclear fusion, orbit-based solar farms or direct heat-conversion or have a big world war for resources.
Thought: Cheap rye or bahai grassis great for moving non-arable soil to arable. the cheaper grass attracts worms that are natural soil processors. it also stores sunlight, chlorophyll converts to vitamins into rich soil. now an entire eco-structure is maintained and the hardier grass natural to the area can stretch itself to grow towards richer soil(s). the same thing goes for any agricultural endeavor
>kennaf
Interesting plant.
>orbit based farming
So we can pollute the rest of the planet without impunity?
render the fat from niggers' asses. america is gonna corner the fucking market when the oil runs out and the nazis take over.
Oil is organic
then why did they have an orchestra faggot
BP has a GM form of kelp that has something like 60% hydrocarbons in it. Grow kelp from excessive ocean and atmospheric CO2, turn it into fuel, burn in vehicles, turns to CO2, grows more kelp
#closethecycle
Hemp does a good job scrubbing co2, gm kelp sounds devastating to the oceans marine life, its bad enough how much seafood is toxic as it is
>orbit-based solar farms
I used to think that, then I saw what the solar wind was doing to solar arrays, plus all the crap that's been accumulating in orbit.
I have a friend who lives in a rural area of North America. One of his neighbors destroyed his land quite literally with a Christmas tree plantation HAHAHAHA
Don't worry. Ever since MH17 the Netherlands has you covered.
Nothing more that I love than plants...I have quite a collection of rare ones..mostly for food and medicine.
Last time I counted I had over 250 species...I think I went a little mental but I love it.
have you heard of jatroba (I think that is how it is spelled)
it is an african bush that grows on the desert fringe - gives high oil capcity seeds. You can plant it on desert edge to stop the desert creeping - after a few years of dropping is leaves the soil improves ans you can advance the plantation and gradually underplant adn drive the desert back
the big trick has been getting the oil out - they are developing new high efficiency oil presses (previously it took as much to run the press as you got out, more or less!)
It is a brazilian guy in Northern Ireland that is doing the oil press - although I think he has gone to Australia now for planting trials
Fuckers in the deep south farm it. Its why its so fucking humid there
The Netherlands is singlehandedly going to defeat Russia.
Horses work fine. People live closer to where they work. People don't travel as much.
Overall, a better time.
Interesting idea.
I used a similar technique on a very poor lot. I started with Castor bean plants and Argemone mexicana.
That plant A.G will turn the most inhospitable land into an extremely fertile lot. It is considered the perfect green fertilizer (N-P-K).
It also decontaminates soil and is the only known plant that can recover alkaline soil.
I wish i was a farmer itd be pretty comfy
It is fantastic in stews as well (young leaves).
Kenaf is a good buddy on my farm.
keep the people coming off the trains thinking it was a nice friendly place. it is easier to handle crowds if they are happy and humming along to a bit of Mozart.
so you select out the fit ones and then send the rest to "the showers" Auschwitz had 200,000 slaves. they made munitions, farmed, made uniforms adn manned the huge coal to oil and rubber plant next door. which is also why they used it for extermination - no lack of coal for the crematoria, and you have endless slave labour replenishment.
> what are things that don't exist?
House power by solar and battery with geothermal heating/cooling. Charge your electric S-10 at home to go to your wage cuck job. Welcome to the future!
