In the US, men and women get paid the same per hour, but if you look at annual income, men earn ~13% more because women take more time off from work.

The law states that men and women working the same occupation shouldn't be paid less. However the wage gap doesn't say that, the wage gap says that men ON AVERAGE get paid more than women.
The thing is, many sources of media and feminist twisting data makes it seem that to people that the wage gap is something that bosses pay a male more than a female even though they're working the same job.
If there were a real wage gap businesses would not hire men and their wages would correct. Men get paid more because they want to get paid more. So they come up for ways to make it happen.

men do earn more money than women. this is however not unjust, it is due to a lot of different factors. what you are thinking of are wages. and in a job (f.eks. mcdonalds) where the workers get a certain wage each hour, there is supposedly some unjust difference here. which is not true at all. but when men work more shifts, more overtime etc. factors like this makes statistics show that men earn more, which is not wrong. but this has nothing to do with the system
