Dunno, man. Over the last years they made significant improvements in the machine learning field, which shows in everyday stuff like image recognition. While we're still far away from a "real" AI overlord who becomes conscious and decides to eradicate the human race, we're already at a point where robots can do a lot of stuff better than humans.

Ai is a dumb meme that programmers gave up on this decade. That’s why they call every self-iterating program “ai” now. It’s never going to happen and it is kind of dumb to have ever thought it would.

What I am trying to say AI can learn to do Task when given rules and it's environment variables meaning that you can always make a super "smart" task doer but not a learning, experiencing, adaptable and ingenious AI outside its programming.

Yes AI today is better than 18 years ago buuuut it's also the same. We just learned how to make AI do different things and how to "teach" it to do it more efficiently. Ie.: Instead of making data banks of tree decisions we program other programs to run tests to it until it has a near infallible data base like the captcha thing. Another example just look at game AI it's always very uncreative and predictable even when given unpredictability it's still the same. Yes it can do better than human but no it can't think outside the box or interact outside its programming due to the one and only fact it uses a fixed paradigm of programming based in binary and decision making and not on true abstract thinking
