Everyone wants to be the ruler that is why democracy is so appealing to the common man. In addition to that they have been brainwashed into thinking that majority rule is somehow justified that is why they support it.
Just because you want something doesn't mean it is good for you or society in this regard. When everybody has the chance at being a ruler there so much competition that only the cheekiest of people get to the top.

This morning a little blue tit chick flew into my window and landed on my patio.

Actually the same issue used to exist when women were married off, which is why they were not fucking randomly married off to anyone who came over, but to the best chosen candidate, much like in it happens with wares (highest bidder) in a capitalistic system.
