No, we criticized the Prequel honestly (see Mr. Plinkett's reviews) but Lucas gave up instead of learning from his mistakes. Normal to mess up, for example Darren Aronofsky did a great job with Pi, but then The Fountain was iffy, but then he did better than ever with The Wrestler.

The prequels had better dramatic themes in my mind than the original trilogy. It's a shame they were badly executed. If they were done at the same level of the OT I would probably prefer the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker more than his Son's time fighting the empire.
Jar Jar Binks was even supposed to be an evil Yoda type character, I think. That would have been a major twist. What a fucking wasted opportunity.

Not really a comparable example. Neither those films nor that director have anyone near the fan base or influence on popular culture. The reaction to a shitty movie or even series of shitty movies by that director would never net the amount of hate that Lucas would have gotten.

I agree. I actually enjoyed a lot of the political themes that were being explored in the prequels. It gave the ealier three films much more context in terms of where the Empire came from. That said, the romances were just awful.

You don't expect a celibate warrior monk like a Jedi to know how to flirt however, and it makes sense that he would hate sand, having been raised as a slave on a fucking desert planet. The prequels had a lot of potential depth.
I agree. Especially when Plinkett explained that the senator should have been manipulating and corrupting Anakin for sex instead of him suddenly trying to seduce her instead, despite all of his training and fundamental belief system being against it.
