In some (or most) European countries, you have to have a """reason to own a gun""" that the government sees as a valid reason. Want to start shooting as a hobby? Lol you can't because someone else has decided for you that that isn't a "valid" reason.

The governments also makes the access to get gun licenses unnecessarily hard, if not impossible in some places. If you want to own a pistol in Finland, first you must have been an active member of some shooting club for two years and must have written down every time you have shot there. After two years shooting with a rented pistol, you need some bureaucrat's confrimation that you have been shooting for two years. Then you go to the police and try to get your gun license. Nowdays you can basically get only .22lr-pistol licenses because nanny state and irrationality when it comes to guns. Then if you're lucky, you get a five-year gun license and after five years you have to try to renew the gun license. All this bureaucracy is expensive as fuck, even the gun itself is more cheap than the process of acquiring the license for it.

Then there's the thing that in most European countries you don't actually own guns. A licensed gun is not owned by the person holding it but is only on loan for the duration of the license. Upon expiry of the license the gun will be confiscated by the agents of the state. Europeans have no gun rights according to their governments.

Also, it's a lot easier to be granted a shotgun license than a firearms license. As long as you aren't a convicted criminal or have mental health issues then you're basically guaranteed to be granted a shotgun license.

I know right? Like everywhere outside is an airgun range here. I used to shoot the realistic airsoft guns made by gun companies in my back yard. Great for practicing on realistic triggers, get a mantisX and it's not bad practice if you don't want to spend anything and you're 11. I can't imagine having to go to a range to do that.
