When you join the US Military your Constitutional Rights are suspended and you have to abide by the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). There are several articles in the UCMJ about not being openly politically subversive or seditious. This makes sense, because you obviously can't trust an avowed communist, a member of a political ideology dedicated to "smashing"/'dismantling"/"destroying" capitalist and thereby American society, to fight for America.
