Why is America so weak? North Vietnam destroyed the American army and America was unable to put down the Afghan and Iraqi insurgencies. Now imagine them trying to take on a military power like Finland.
They always lose against russia-backed armies so was in korea, so was in vietnam, and now in syria.
Jackson Stewart
Is that like russia losing against american backed armies?
Angel Green
I have half a mind to move to Finland just so I can get in on those wargames.

The US military (and any other major military for that matter) is designed and structured to fight conventional wars against other similarly structured armies until one side admits defeat or the sees their military-government structure collapse. The US army is very good at this.
Conversely, the US army is absolutely terrible at fighting nonconventional terrorist/guerrilla forces.
The invasion of Iraq is a great example. The US overthrew Saddam's government and achieved military victory over Iraqi forces in 6 weeks. 6 weeks from initial invasion to total victory and the overthrow of Saddam. That is what the US army is good at.
Then we spend another 8 years in the shit trying to win an unwindable war against guerrilla forces. The US army is terrible at that.

It's all about tactics. Those were both enemies that fought guerilla wars. Against a trained and equipped army that's what you want to do. However Vietcong lost far more people than the Americans did. The insurgents were far more effective though and that's only because the Americans taught the jihadists how to wage war on a profession army when they wanted Russia out of the middle east.
Finland could win if it used the right tactics. Forget making yourself a big target though. A resistance is far more effective against an enemy that outnumbers and can overpower you.

With the Jihadists it's like wtf are you going to do? They hide among the general population and sporadically attack targets so you have to guard stuff. Once you're guarding stuff it costs you money and they just draw out the war as long as they want. There's actually no way to win a war against them with that strategy. At least not using conventional forces.
You could always go with a classic like this. It may be a bit outdated but the principles of warfare remain the same. Deceive your enemy and anywhere you can take supplies from him do so.
I could make some other recommendations if you want. Some books addressing conventional tactics.

This. The only way to defeat them, is to just kill them all.

The WEAKNESS of NATO was summarized in the Aurora 17 exercise. US marines, Swedes and Norwegians were brutally slaughtered by the SUPERIOR Finnish conscripts acting as OPFOR. NATO is so WEAK that their rifles fire a low energy 5.56 bb cartridge that was shown to be too weak to even penetrate Taleban wearing nothing but leather jackets, and American rifles are even restricted from firing full-auto. Meanwhile the FINNS fired their high T 7.62 full auto and crushed the enemy positions with endless barrages of heavy 155mm artillery and GRAD fire.
Canadabro, would a Second Civil War be feasible/winnable for anti-government rebels (assuming their goal is simply destroying the US Government and their post-war plans considered separate)?
Could several competing groups (let’s say one Far-Right, one Far Left, and one extreme Libertarian) operating independently do it or would they have to form a coalition to match the might of the US Government?
You would be restricted in that situation. You have you alphabets trying to come down on you if that ever happens. It would be hard. You couldn't use an electronics at all with mics or cameras to coordinate because those are compromised. You couldn't even have those in your presence. You would need physical messengers like the Taliban uses.
You would have better luck if you infiltrated all the alphabets and gathered info. You would have to operate basically like the CIA. The key factor is how many people you could win to your side. Obviously you're not the majority if you can't just vote someone into power.
I dunno like I said it would be hard but if you win enough people to your side it would be made much easier. Certainly winnable if you make the right moves.

I dunno pretty much every conventional book says the same thing regarding modern warfare. Attack your enemies supply lines. Especially the American books emphasize air superiority.
There are a ton of books on conventional tactics really. I don't think many really stand out. Some books are better at addressing infantry tactics, some are better at addressing air tactics. I really never ranked them.
