because beautiful buildings inspire love and pride for ones country. Generic glass buildings and concrete structures do the opposite and have a depressing affect on those who live and work near it. Its all about erasing any love for a country one might have. That is why every major city center looks exactly the same apart from the old historic buildings that still stand out.
