I have a scope for it but it’s actually quite fun to use the irons. It’s a .223 carbine with an 18.5” barrel so it makes for a great shooter either way. The thing will shoot much more accurately than I can.

If you are only going to have 1 gun then ya probably the 9mm is the choice but if you know you're going to get more guns later or if you really just want to dip your feet into shooting you should get a .22 LR so that you can practice shooting for less $ and not develop a flinch like you might if you start off on too big of a gun. Can't go wrong with a Ruger 10/22 rifle and there are lots of nice 22 pistols the S&W Victory shoots very nice and comes apart very easily for cleaning apparently. What's your budget?
