Today is Philippine Independence Day

Today is Philippine Independence Day.
Declared on June 12, 1898. We fought bravely against the Spanish but the Americans made us into a colony . Spain ceded the Philippines to America after the Spanish-American war. The Filipinos also fought a war with the Americans, the Philippine-American war. Our final Independence Day is on July 4th, 1946. We could have stayed with the US like Puerto Rico and Guam but President Quezon wanted Independence from the Americans.
All of this can be read in Wikipedia.

happy independence day keep on doing you

Fix your roads and traffic

Happy Independence day!!

why don't you celebrate independence day on July 4th?

After Duterte's run, do you guys still have any hope? You need an emperor that can make all the necessary reforms to take your country to the next level. Filipino need a national socialist country. They are not disciplined to run a decent democratic government that isn't third world.

Duterte still has 4 years left . NatSoc is that Nazi? I’m middle class so I haven’t really noticed anything different. It is still the same.

Mabuhay!

You need a authoritarian leader to make the necessary reforms. Your next leader after Duterte will swing the pendulum to make your country worse.

should have stayed

Pretty good movie, filmed in the Philippines called 'Amigo'

It is pretty hard to find for retail purchase in the USA.

A lot of care was taken for accuracy

I've seen this movie. It's actually pretty decent.

Happy independence day.
Honest question: Did life improve when you were a US colony?
That's our day. No one else can have it.

You dont often see the Krag rifle

john sayles is great. i could not recommend Matewan any higher.

Yeah, they did a good job of showing the USA as a combination of reluctant and violent. Also showed how bloodthirsty the Filipinos can be. Great ending too.

A lot of the actors portraying the US Marines have gone on to do bigger pictures.

It's true the US granted us independence 4th of July '46,
but we first declared independence June 12 1898.
W/e... some of us still do barbecue parties
every 4th of July.

Make the Philippines New Spain Again

As long as your people keep blindly trusting elders and authority, and keep attacking like harpies those who criticize your groupthink, your country will never escape the endless cycles of corruption.

>Did life improve when you were a US colony?

A number of diseases were eradicated.

Infrastructure was actually already on the upswing since about 1880, faltering in 1890,
then the US boosted it big time.

It was subtle change, street-level, from monarchist colony to democratic colony, but we'd probably be worse than nigger-tier if not for Spain and especially the US.

All in all, a big thank you to the US!

my american cousin currently lives in Manila. Maybe I'll ask him what he and his native friends do when he comes to visit next time around.

Shoula stayed a territory. Coulda had easy gibs and citizenship. Instead, we netted less mutts over the century. Thank you, based jungle niggers for acting against best interests

and now they all immigrate to america by the millions....but you know..fuck america for trying.

My understanding is that the US, basically always wanted to give you independence after the war, but we just wanted to make sure you guys were ready or something. I'm sure WWII threw a huge wrench in that, and maybe after the war we just said fuck it,you guys take the reigns now. I'm probably totally overgeneralizing here, but that's just my laymans view on how things went down.

can you imagine the money pit this colony would be in this current day and age! getting rid of them was one of the most underrated moves the americans have ever made

That's good to hear.

>but we just wanted to make sure you guys were ready or something
imagine being this deluded

You would be speaking Japanese if it weren't for the US. You should be thanking McArthur, Nimitz didn't want to liberate the Philippines.

fuck idk. it wasn't for like direct humanitarian interest, I thought it was just so they wouldn't fall into anyone else's influence we wouldn't like.

We wanted/needed a resupply port in Asia, so our steamers could restock on coal and such. A puppet would have worked as well as a colony, I suppose. Really, though, there was a big debate in congress about it at the time.

Because the first time we celebrated our July 4th Independence Day the year after we were declared independent, everyone else forgot about us and congratulated the USA instead.

lel. makes sense honestly. I wonder if our leaders did that on purpose, to get you to side with us more by celebrating independence together. That probably is the reason. Can't fault you for wanting your own independence day.

Congrats! I hear good things about Duerte cleaning house. We could use someone like that in certain us cities.

Ew. Literally 8 provinces participated (8 sun rays in the flag), the rest did not really give a shit.
It was ill planned and there was a lot of in-fighting.

what a shit revolution, yuck

t. My Spanish loyalist ancestors killed all the males of families that cannot produce a cedula/joined the shit revolution

>gain independence from America
>still let aussies and amerifats come into your country to fuck your kids.

Yesterday, I learned that the surname Duterte came from the french, Du Tertre.
The Duterte clan founder is a Portuguese guy with a Chink wife.

desu everyone goes to SE Asia for sex it seems. not just westerners. Las Vegas, most likely has a great number of whores for the international rich to bang too. Although they are probably more high end. I imagine the saudi's love fucking our whores.
