The proposed SoCal state is voted predominantly republican in the Governor general election we just had. The north is a bit less clear, due to having the bay area. Either way, this isn't the first time this kind of thing has been proposed, but it is the first time it's gotten on the ballet, at least in any remotely recent years. They also, by design, carry most of the state economy. Because most people live there and most business is centered there.
Creating whole new states without an economic center would be creating economically unviable states with extremely low vote counts (since they're based on population). More poor white rural areas that don't have their voice heard. You think that's better?
