After a four month spiritual journey, I have realised that Catholicism is not for me. I have always been drawn to a "Clean cut" version of Protestantism with minimum amounts of rituals and emphasising the faith. Initially a Calvinist, I slowly evolved into Quakerism in mind and spirit.

However in March I did, after receiving suggestions from both here and from other figures important in my life, attempt to try the Catholic Church.

The first few times were actually highly informative and interesting. I loved being able to discuss some spiritual matters with a priest, that was very enlightening to hear his views on particular matters of the faith. But by early May, I was spent. I could no longer drag myself every Sunday to a church to mumble useless ritualistic sayings for an hour a week. The congregation of single mothers and their half-cast kids started to grate on me. There was a snobbery from the older Catholics I couldn't shake.

I have since returned to my Quaker beliefs. Having a personal faith continues to work for me. I don't enjoy rituals, hierarchies and symbolism. I only now have a small statue of St Anthony above my bed.

I tried Catholicism. Really I did. But it just didn't work out for me. A bit bloggy, but don't pretend people don't like to hear spiritual stories.
