Your non-quantification of "long time" doesn't imply his relaying of Jesus' word's inaccuracy. His relaying could be cross-checked with relaying by other people. Secular historians agree that the "long time" is within the acceptable time frame for accuracy. For example, some copies of Revelation have the number of the beast as 616 instead of 666. This is because when using Gematria, Nero’s name adds up to 666 or 616 depending on whether you do it in Latin or Greek. So the beast is clearly a reference to Caesar.
