Our last fuckheug tornado, which would've been exactly 20 years ago if this happened 2 weeks ago, was in the middle of the night.

The pictures shows EF3 damages at the very least. Tornadoes this north of the country aren't that rare (althought are most likeky located in both Dakotas, Minnesota and the nowadays trend, in Wyoming).

The rotation looked impressive on radar tho.

beyond that, about 3 hours later to the west, we drove through a microburst that had ENORMOUS slush balls. We could see its buildup on the road and my wife said 'omg what is that'; you could clearly see its 'wall'. I exclaimed what it was because of a song i enjoy is named after them. If it had been cooler we would have had a broken windshield at the very least.

I was in the Springfield, MA tornado which happened just over 8 years ago (you heard that right, IN the tornado).

EF3, and had 3 deaths total (which is a miracle considering that ONE major tornado every maybe 50 years or so makes it within 50 miles or so).

Still, you may get the big idea of what this things could do based on the overall habitat in the period, just by taking a look at some of the most vilent even tin the XIX century (Natchez tornado that encompass both banks of the Mississippi at some point, the Grinnell, IO tornado, the Pomeroy, IO one, the Egnima outbreak and then the New Richmond, WI one of 1899).

You got relatively crazy deathrates through Natchez to the ones from 1953 (mainly the Flint-Worcester sequence) because the knowledge on predicting them was developping and because of the experimentations of Fawbush and Miller in the late 1940's. Both superoutbreaks of 1973 and 2011 and Joplin are pretty much oddities at this point compared to that period.
