cnn still has a fairly high profile because of two things: it's history, boomers think of it fondly because of the coverage during the 1st gulf war and things like the LA riots. back then it was a half decent news organization. but they hitched their wagon too closely to the unpopular clinton campaign. they even had dnc people like brazille as a panelist feeding questions. dodgy as fuck, especially when they didn't declare any conflict of interest. so clinton lost, some commentators and reporters made personal attacks again trump (lemon, acosta, that crazy spic chick whose name escapes me) they've backed themselves into a corner. and their usual base kinda went away and stopped watching them. suddenly they're fighting with msnbc for ever diminishing viewership. there's a decreasing number of people who get their news from cable now, and when nearly all staff at cnn are left leaning, they're really making it hard to maintain viewership. on the other side, fox, they've always had a number of democrats or leftists as anchors, sheppard smith, chris wilson, megyn kelly, alan colmes, juan williams etc. at least fox gives a diversity of opinion, unlike cnn which just bashes the current administration all day every day. people are tired of that. especially when so many stories have them following spurious claims - russian hooker in thai prison who can give the dirt on Trump is a perfect example at how they'll lower themselves to find dirt, ending up looking like idiots because they keep getting conned. the 2nd thing- the airport and hotel contract. that unnaturally inflates their viewership, we've all been held hostage to watching cnn while waiting for a flight. that contract is the only thing keeping them afloat atm. get rid of that, and they're toast. but judging by their plummeting numbers, even that might not save them. interesting times ahead. might still be a few years away, but I look forward to the day cnn is rebranded, or better still shut down
