do you have dockless bike or scooter sharing in your city? Do you use it? How has it changed how people get around in your neighborhood? Overall good or bad impact?
ofo recently put in a bunch of bikes in my town as a pilot program, and I wondered what Jow Forums thinks of these self-policing 'micromobility' systems that are being deployed all over. I used an ofo for a couple minutes, and it seemed convent enough.
I have only seen a recent story on the local news about it shitting up Santa Monica. I's like an explanation of your image since it is more interesting and I don't feel like playing reverse image search detective.

the pic is of a ride sharing bike graveyard in china. in some cities they oversaturated them with bikes.
just buy your own bike, I used to bike to school which was a 20 minute bus ride/wait in around 10-15 minutes, not only do you get exercise but you can leave when ever you wanted without delay
Carson Lewis
Massive rideshare programs in Chinese cities failed miserably leaving huge piles of unused bikes
Ian Fisher
It's litter.
Tyler Wright
I'd say there are tradeoffs for both using ridesharing and owning your own bike. with ridesharing you don't have any fear that you'll bike will get stolen, and you don't need to walk it around if you don't feel like biking somewhere. But having your own bike means that it is higher quality, and you're guaranteed to have access to it every day
Jack Sanders
Interesting, so it makes sense that we have pilot programs that are privately funded to see how cities adapt rather than governent funded/mandated city ride share.
Colton Bell
>each one of these bikes were once owned by a jewish child holocausted in the shoah
John Ward
in my case, the city got a grant to invesitage these micromobility systems. Then the city council approved a 1-year pilot program for ofo, after which they would look at the data and decide to give it the go-ahead or not. other systems, like some e-scooter sharing companies, donate $1 per scooter per day to the city (or something like that) to help with infrastructure and the like
Ryan Brooks
Fucking this. I live next to a university and see these stupid bright orange piss bikes littering every corner. Makes me want to toss em' in a fucking dumpster
Ayden Smith
Screencap this post so we have some sort of record for when the jews try and add this as an exhibition in the museum of tolerance.
Xavier Parker
some of the valuations of the companies are crazy. ofo was started by a couple Chinese college kids and is now worth 2 billion burgerbucks.
do you think that's the majority opinion? my (college-aged) friends think that the whole thing is pretty neat. but as someone who will never use any of them, I can see how it might be frustrating
James Lopez
We have them in Sydney, people dump them in all kinds of places and vandalize them, I think Melbourne has banned them or the company that operates them has pulled out.
Lucas Torres
Those were the same complaints I saw coming from the local report about Santa Monica. That and the company initially started buisiness without proper permits but has since been cited like 1/4 million dollars. I dunno, it's almost as if it's something as dubious as the current housing cost dilemma peing pushed into private locomotion.

we have a lot of them in London, both the docked ones and dockless ones. They both seem to work quite well. When the dockless ones first came in it looked a bit messy because people would just drop them where they were when they were finished with them. I don't know what's happened, whether they were told by the company or people just decided themselves, but now people seem to tidy them away, like people will put them in rows against a wall or in places where you can lock your own bike. One thing I've also noticed is they are used a lot more by women and brown People. I haven't used them myself, I have my own bike, but they seem a good idea

Los Angeles is saturated with fucking Uber scooter places now
Nathaniel Ward
it seems that it really depends on the users if it works out or not. With ofo, there is a points system where you get points for riding and parking in "good" spots, and for reporting bad parking or damaged bikes. Then you can lose points if you bike outside of the geofence etc. I'd imagine that all of the other sharing networks have the same sort of self-policing systems in place. Since my town has a lot of open areas, I don't think that they will get in the way as much as in more dense cities where they can pile up and block sidewalks and such
They could resell those in the U.S., I'd love to replace my family's bike fleet and those look pretty nice.
As for ride share my city briefly had it before a greedy and stupid subset of the population exercised their natural inclination towards bikes. There are a few private companies doing it now but it's more expensive and takes longer since they do a shitload of stuff to make sure you bring it back.
Benjamin Russell
that's a shame. seems like a lot of campuses are having fun with it - I wonder how mine will respond, being engineering focused and all (Colorado school of Mines)
A&M has had them for a while and have made a game of sticking them in odd places and memeing about it hard, like in pic related
I'll take them all! whatever won't be used will be recycled at local metal yard
Jack Nelson
most of em turn into parts bikes or get recycled there in china iirc. Sometimes, places like Singapore sell them for $50 each at oversupply auctions.
Isaiah Murphy
We do where I am, it's been interesting watching the spiceheads figure out how to remove the lock, almost like watching monkeys learn to use tools for the first time.
As for the scheme, it's a good idea in theory. The problem is that people chain the bikes up when not in use because they don't do communal use very well and come to think of it as their bike.
Ethan Williams
funniest thing about this shit, long time ago, like in the 80s, everyone in China owned a bike cause they too poor to have cars. Then they got money, bought cars, bikes are for peasants, now the dumbasses PAY to RENT a bike... lol
Elijah Sullivan
I'd imagine that we'll get articles about racism or whatnot if these companies redefine their geofences to avoid problem areas
Cameron Bell
Probably, admittedly where I am the problem areas are multicultural rather than single-race so I'm not sure racism would be the problem but there'd be some complaint.
Asher Butler
I live in Santa Monica. Can confirm they are all over the fucking place. In alleys. On roofs. Riding on pedestrian sidewalks and running into old people. They're out of fucking control here.
Jack Wright
the marginal cost of a single bike mustn't be very high. non-electrified ones like ofo or lime cost somewhere around $40 to manufacture. If each hour of operation costs one burger, then you'll repay the bike in a couple weeks with light usage.
has your government threatened to take them all away? here in Denver they seized a bunch of e-scooters, but it seems to mainly be because the city wants a bigger cut. Although, I have heard of a lot of complaints, mainly from how people ride them around rather than the space they take up
Yeah we have them. Doesnt seem to have done anything to stop the constant vehicle traffic though.
Jacob Baker
Yes, they are threatening to reduce the numbers to 1500 scooters in Santa Monica. These Chinese scooters only have tires rated to support 75 pounds each so are really only suitable for small people but there are no warnings on the device, etc
Owen Harris
We have it in sg. It's great. I'd never ride a bike normally because I'm too Jewish to shell out the capital and too lazy to research what properties I actually need in a bike. But just being able to hop on one for a few cents and cycle home is great. Been doing it for 6 months and I am now Jow Forums

>cucksharing or dildo ass drilling programs
I scream and honk at every bicyclist I see on the road. I make sure to be eating a cheeseburger with chunks of it flying out of my mouth while screaming and Pantera playing in the back
Bicyclists should be genocided
Ayden Wright
people intentionally throw them in the river or stick them up trees in Oz, Marxist sharing fail, people never look after shit they didn't have to earn themselves
Christian Bell
I saw that. Thought Australia would be more civilized than that. Melbourne is actually worse than Sydney. I was told bike shop owners did that the most, which makes sense, I guess.
Hudson Walker
>nigs paradise

They became a meme here in Melbourne. Everyone was trying to out do each other by putting them in the most retarded places possible.
Liam Mitchell
You need to buy a diesel and roll coal in them
I fucking hate when bikes try driving in the traffic. They hold all the traffic up and create a potential accident situation as people drive half into the other lane to pass them plus if someone ended up hitting the bike you know the driver would be fucked royally
We have a self-service bike thing in my city (Rennes), but as soon as the city started renting out actual good quality electric bikes for people to have to themselves, it got so popular that now they're closing a third of the self-service stations.
John Walker
in Moscow, they are a symbol of proximity of liberals or "liberalists" who are basically the same as American Democrats or other leftists in Europe
I saw some laying around when I was visiting Dallas. Never seen them before. I don't think I'd want to use something that some disgusting human put their greasy aids riddled mitts all over tbqh.
Adam White
We throw ours in the river.
The companies make money selling the annual subscription. After that they don't care what happens to the actual bikes

Riding a pushy is a great way to keep fit and get to work or school if you've had your license suspended for getting drunk and doing burnouts.
But the second you turn into a lycra wearing poof and decide you should ride 4 abreast so you can talk to steve about your fucking autistic kid who cant use polymer based school shoes you deserve to go under a fucking roadtrain.

We have share programs in bigger cities and they work fine but in shitskin infested cities they all get trashed/stolen.....shitskins are why we can't have high trust things
