Austria is Germany, and Germany was Protestant. The reformation began and spread there. The Protestant work ethic and legal system that followed is what made Germany and all other western nations great.
Catholicism, like Islam, is used as a political tool to consolidate power and maintain rigid social structures. It causes corruption and a disparity of power. Protestantism is necessary for effective rule of law, and humble/servile public leaders who don't demand money to get into heaven

2. Austria is not just Germany, the Habsburgs were defenders of the Catholic faith and effectively fought the spread of the reformation to their subjects
3. Protestantism has just as much historical basis in politics as Catholicism, it was a tool for uppity kings and princes to claw power back from the church in Rome
4. There is no historical correlation between protestantism and national wealth.
