Question for Russianbros

Why are there so many tower blocks in Russia when it is such a huge country? There is lots of space to build nice homes.

self bump

Commie aesthetics

do russians hate the chinks? and vice versa? the general public

Communism style

they lived under it for about 70 years

You can't just build a home in the middle of nowhere and call it a day. It needs infrastructure and its inhabitants need to get to job/supermarket/hospital/school.

War destroy country.
Soviet industralization, many factory open.
Workers come from everywhere to work in factories.
Workers need lot of apartments quickly.

Easy, cheap and fast, also poor quality.

>grew up in a panel house (as we called it)

actually, it's french courtesy

Also this.

First thing first, separate homes are economically unsustainable, in particular, when a rapid urbanisation is happening. Without panel housing, we'd end up with Favelas. Not to mention that harsh climate would make it even worse.

I think it probably has to do with urbanization and industrialization being somewhat artificial in the Soviet system compared to the West. People were basically driven into cities to support the industrial cause and they never had the kind of middle class demographic that created more spread out suburbs and villages like in the West

>Easy, cheap and fast, also poor quality.
Soviet apartments are much better quality than the recent ones, not to mention that the buildings before the 60s also had great aesthetics.

Can confirm

Fuck these huge shitty blocks

Collectivization force rural Russian farmer to quit, and move to big cities to make a living.

it's much better without shitskins
>t. east german

I'm affraid it might have something/too much to do with population control as in martial law happens you can shut down blocks easily, extensive landscapes of homes not so much.

We had many problems:
- windows almost never fit into the frame
- heating was terrible lower levels opened windows in the winter, upper levels got frozen
- you could everything in +/-2 levels, you could listen to your neighbors conversation
- if you repair the whole building will curse at you
- etc...

there was a big population boom after WW2 and the needed to build new housing quikly and efficiently.

>Without panel housing, we'd end up with Favelas

Good point.

Shitload of people living in baracks
Shitload of people coming into cities every year

You either build as fast and economically effective as possible or something bad happens. Really bad.

Much better than ending up on the streets
It's actually a solid solution to a housing crisis
You can stack as high as you want if necessary and problem solved, which is why I am so fond of the idea from judge dread

Dystopian Elixir, the pic.

Not Russian but I've been there and know

Basically the soviets thought it was far more cost effective to build these tower blocks than to have a house for everyone (and keep in mind central planned economy = government builds all the housing) also transportation was never good enough in most places to have something like the American suburbs

Fast forward to today and it's far cheaper for most Russians to just live in the tower blocks that were already built than to go and pay to build nice houses but they can build them now if they want to and can afford it because it's not communist anymore

Also lots of Russians have a thing called a dacha which is basically a house out in the countryside they can go to when they have time off from work

>tower blocks in Russia when it is such a huge country? There is lots of space to build nice homes.

space is one thing.

it is clear that houses waste more resources to build, to connect to utilities, to leave the house and return.

the cheapest and most quickly built type of lodging is using a hall and placing people in it. The next best are barracks, this all makes sense right? The commieblock follows next.

Its fucking cold in russia.

High centralization for the Soviet industry

most big cities end up with a similar configuration. compare new york to russian cities and they look similar, just at higher luxury

It all makes sense. Maybe with modern technology and planning they can make the standards of living higher in the future.

no it don't

We do it in america
you can to vlad

You dont have winters that turn houses build in a middle of nowhere into frozen graves.
