Prison is for justice, if you punish a convict you are worse than they are. You are choosing to hold someone against their will and subject them to a painful existence.
If a person can be rehabilitated, then they should be, but if the end goal is not to produce a healthy citizen, then the criminal should be executed after the trial. Our prison population nation wide should be in the low thousands. If your term is over 5 years, you should be executed.
The laws should be reexamined and reformed based on this.
