It's a strange thing because I'm 100% certain the majority never wanted this, but the way things are structured there is not really a way to address it. All parties seem to want these massive levels of immigration. They used to put them up and down a bit based on the economy, but the numbers were still high. Now it's just full blast - jam as many as is logistically possible, and it an ideological sort of project. They don't even bother with economic arguments.. Whether it's good for actual Canadians or if Canadians want it or not is a secondary matter.
Nobody can win without getting the immigrant vote now, so even single discouraging word about immigration pretty much disqualifies you. It a strange situation and I don't see a way to correct it.
